Want To Study Computer Science? Not At University Of Florida
This is not a good sign for a country that wants to compete in science and engineering. The University of Florida announced it is dropping its computer science department. Stephen Salzberg explains:
The school is eliminating all funding for teaching assistants in computer science, cutting the graduate and research programs entirely, and moving the tattered remnants into other departments.
Salzberg also points fingers:
Actually, the real villains here are the Florida state legislators, who have cut the budget for their flagship university by 30% over the past 6 years.
Public universities across the country are facing draconian budget cuts. The consequences will be felt for decades.
