Michele Bachmann Agrees: Black Children Were Better Off Under Slavery

It’s turning out to be a banner day for Michele Bachmann. First she went on CNBC to admit that she hopes job losses will benefit her presidential ambitions. Now we find that Mrs. Bachmann has signed a radically conservative pledge called “The Marriage Vow – A Declaration of Dependence upon Marriage and Family.” The pledge, pushed by Bob Vander Plaats (pictured), a social conservative evangelical in Iowa, and his organization, The Family Leader, as a way for GOP presidential candidates to prove their family values bona fides, is naturally anti-abortion, anti-divorce, and anti-gay marriage. But there’s also this extra-special part, as Jack & Jill Politics points out:

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President.

No one with ambitions to be President of the United States would ever be either stupid or crazy enough to sign that, right? Well, Michele Bachmann yesterday became the first candidate to sign.
