Donald Trump kept his word to me that he would do my show, and it’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to interview The Donald. After discussing a number of other issues, including whether he’s prepared to divest his interests and give full financial disclosure should he run for president, and how he’s changed position on certain issues over the years, we got into the inevitable birther issue. My questioning was based on facts gathered at factcheck.org (run by the Annenberg School at Trump’s alma mater). Trump claimed the document was not signed by anyone in government (not true) and that what has been made public is not a valid birth certificate (also not true). Hawaii issues a “Certification of Live Birth” but no longer does it provide a “Certificate of Live Birth.” Both, however, are considered valid for legal purposes. Here, too Trump claimed otherwise. At one point he was so exasperated with my line of questioning he insisted we change the subject something more important, like China. But it didn’t seem as though, at that point, he wanted to talk about that, either, and his annoyance with me was obvious. Below is the birther part of the interview. The whole thing is at Mediaite.
