Sessions, deemed too racist to be a judge, is now Attorney General
A few minutes ago, the US Senate confirmed Jefferson Beauregard Sessions as Attorney General by a divided vote of 52-47. Just to refresh your memory:
Formerly a state attorney general and federal prosecutor, the Alabama senator has struggled against accusations of racism and bigotry on the way to his likely confirmation as top law enforcement officer in the nation.

In the 1980s, Mr Sessions was also deemed too racist to be a federal judge – an allegation that he called “damnably false” during his Senate confirmation hearing in January.

In 1986, Session’s nomination for a federal judgeship was rejected after one of his former subordinates, Thomas Figures, alleged that Sessions called him “boy,” made remarks disparaging civil-rights organizations, and made jokes about the KKK, even as his office was investigating the Donald lynching. Civil-rights groups have harshly criticized Sessions’s nomination, arguing that he is hostile to federal anti-discrimination and voting-rights law.
And the men of the Senate GOP majority silenced Elizabeth Warren for bringing this up:
When Sessions was up for a federal judgeship in 1986, Coretta Scott King — the late widow of Martin Luther King, Jr. — begged the Senate Judiciary Committee to vote against his appointment. Senators on both sides of the aisle ultimately considered him too racist for the job, based on his disparaging comments about African Americans. He reportedly said the NAACP and ACLU were “Communist-inspired” and “un-American” … and joked that the worst thing about the KKK was its marijuana-smoking members.

America’s new top prosecutor, Jeff Sessions, has said the US must bring an end to illegal immigration, as he was sworn in at the White House.
The US attorney general said: “We need to end this lawlessness that threatens the public safety, pulls down the wages of working Americans.”
Pulls down wages, I thought that was the job of the new Secretary of Labor
