Trump still miffed at Rahm Emanuel, threatens martial law in Chicago
Trump manages to squeeze all the favorite white nationalist tropes – violent “inner cities”, law and order, and a civic leader who isn’t a WASP-y Protestant – into one chilling threat:
President Donald Trump is threatening Chicago and its mayor, Rahm Emanuel, with martial law, something which could have profound implications for the Windy City.
On Tuesday morning, Trump sent out the following tweet, threatening to “send in the feds” in response to Chicago’s violence:
If Chicago doesn't fix the horrible "carnage" going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!

Trump’s tweet coincided with a segment on the Fox News show “The O’Reilly Factor.” A few minutes after 8 p.m., the program discussed Chicago violence and cited statistics similar to those that Trump had used — namely that there had been “228 shootings in 2017 (up 5.5 percent from last year)” and “42 homicides in 2017 (up 24 percent from last year).” One of the show’s guests, Horace Cooper, even used the term “carnage” to describe the situation.
The president also used the term carnage to describe inner city violence during his inaugural address. After denouncing “the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential,” Trump proclaimed that “this American carnage stops right here and stops right now.”
Earlier Monday, Emanuel criticized Trump for failing to focus on the important priorities of his new job.
“You didn’t get elected to debate the crowd size at your inaugural,” Emanuel said. “You got elected to make sure that people have a job, that the economy continues to grow, people have security as it relates to their kids’ education. It wasn’t about your crowd size. It was about their lives and their jobs.”

Despite Trump’s apocalyptic depiction of Chicago’s crime rate, the metropolis is actually nowhere near the top of America’s most dangerous big cities. Its per capita homicide rate in 2015 was 18th at 16.4 out of 100,000 residents, with the ignominious top spots belonging to New Orleans (46.9 out of 100,000 residents), Detroit (45.0 out of 100,000 residents), and Saint Louis (43.8 out of 100,000 residents). It was slightly higher among non-fatal shootings in 2015, ranking 12th with 88.9 out of 100,000. This, however, was still eclipsed by St. Louis (659.7 out of 100,000 residents), Memphis (247.1 out of 100,000 residents), and Oakland (232.4 out of 100,000 residents).

I’ve always liked him, see the quote above in my first post.
When he was at the DNC Emanuel had a hand in selecting candidates for Congress and I think something like 37 out of 38 of them won.

It all begins in the home. I’m liberal, but I have had friends to lose their sons, in drive by shootings. Additionally, unless your are famous or related to someone famous, these crimes are NEVER SOLVED. Therefore, the killers remain on the streets to keep killing. A young woman and her 3 young sons were killed in Chatham. That case is still unsolved. A young girl from Evanston, Illinois was visiting her grand parents, in Englewood. She was standing on the corner, waiting to catch the bus, she was gunned down. Her mother died several months ago. Died from a broken heart, I believe. That murder was never solved. Detectives are making over a hundred grand per year, but they solve very few cases.

I was just joking about the horror of the Trump regime.
Your post makes good points I agree with, especially the first, because I see far less supervision and training of children in fundamental things like the Golden Rule, proper manners, respect for the property of others, etc. There seems to be less regard for others and more of a willingness to approve of anything that profits the individual. Accompanying this is a lack of willingness to correct children.
When I was a boy, one didn’t see children running wild in stores, nor was profanity heard from them or any number of other things I could list.
Yes, it starts in the home and it has to start when they are toddlers to obey. Many parents today just let-em run wild, which just multiplies problems later on.
In cases like those you mentioned, often witnesses get intimidated to remain silent, or they find it preferable for a killer to go free if it means they not be thought of as a snitch..

I think the biggest problem we have is an open border between Chicago and Indiana. One has only to drive 30 minutes into Indiana to buy a firearm out of one of their many vending machines, and bring it back here. Most, if not all, murders in Chicago are caused by guns purchased in Indiana.

To me the funny part was when someone in Chicago, I don’t know if it was Emanul or not, replied to Trump’s threat to “send in the feds” by saying “They’re already here.”

The Only reason Chicago gets headlines in the right wing world is because it is their boogeyman code phrase for a black city that the kenyan muslim usurper came from. They have no historical perspective and are unable to acknowlege that while 2016 was an uptick, murders in Chicago are at a 70 year low. Fully 1,803 MORE people were murdered in Chicago when saint Reagan was President.
