How can they move forward with no replacement?

Ryan (R-WI) was asked during CNN’s Thursday town hall to explain to a cancer patient who said the Affordable Care Act saved his life how congressional Republicans could move forward with repeal of the law without a replacement plan ready.
Jeff Jeans, a lifelong Republican who said he worked on the Reagan and George W. Bush campaigns, said he opposed the ACA until he received a surprise cancer diagnosis at 49. He was given six weeks to live.

“Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, I’m standing here today alive,” he said. “Being both a small business person and someone with pre-existing conditions, I rely on the Affordable Care Act to be able to purchase my own insurance. Why would you repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement?”

Ryan said he “wouldn’t do that” and expressed relief that Jeans lived to tell his story.

Jeans interjected to thank President Barack Obama “from the bottom of my heart” for passing the healthcare law.

“I would be dead if it weren’t for him,” Jeans told Ryan.

    I am glad that Speaker Ryan heard this man’s comments directly and in so public a forum.

    But I have to say I do not have a great deal of empathy. He sounds like a typical right winger where he is stridently opposed to the social safety net, until he needs it himself. Then suddenly, everything he has been railing against is a wonderful idea.

    Hopefully this experience has changed his outlook and he can see the value of joining the rest of industrialized world in offering universal health care. But if he continues to evaluate social issues based only on his personal needs, nothing has been accomplished.

    the people who were effectively killed by Obamacare by having their policies canceled during cancer treatment were noticeably absent during CNNs thursday town hall.

      Well they always said that there were going to be death panels, but you fail to recognize one in reality as it is happening. The repeal of ACA is a being done by what is effectively a death panel. You know something is wrong when your representative have to meet under the cover of night with the motor off and lights down low.

      That’s because there are none.The plans that were canceled were just money makers for the insurance industry. If you got sick, your plan was canceled.

    if you have to beg your own party to not get rid of something you desperately need so that you may live, then you get no sympathy from me. they have been saying this is something they intended to do, while the other side tries to protect your interest. so, STOP begging.

    “We want to replace (the ACA) with something better.”, Ryan claimed.
    All evidence to the contrary.

    In the GOP-controlled Congress, dying of a chronic illness simply because your employer doesn’t provide health insurance coverage is the essence of Americana.

    Point of fact: Republicans have already begun the process of dismantling the ACA.
    They have no clue what might … perhaps … conceivably replace it … someday.

    And in the meantime, if you suffer from a life-threatening chronic illness, or failed to have one diagnosed in a timely fashion due to lack of preventative health care checkups, the GOP response is … “it surely sucks to be you”.
