McCain admits he handed smear dossier to FBI

It was John McCain who gave the FBI info on the Kremlin smearing Trump.

The chain of how the document reached the FBI is not officially known.

However Carl Bernstein, the Watergate reporter who contributed to the first story about its existence, published by CNN on Tuesday afternoon, suggested that McCain was handed it by a former British ambassador to Moscow.

Bernstein told CNN: ‘It came from a former British MI6 agent who was hired from a political opposition research firm in Washington who was doing work about Donald Trump for both republican and democratic candidates opposed to Trump.

‘They were looking at Trumps business ties, they saw some questionable things about Russians, about his businesses in Russia, they in turn hired this MI6 former investigator, he then came up with additional information from his Russian sources, he was very concerned by the implications of it, he then took it to an FBI colleague that he had known in his undercover work for years, he took it to this FBI man in Rome who turned it over to the bureau in Washington in August.

‘And then, a former British ambassador to Russia independently was made aware of these findings and he took the information to John McCain – Senator John McCain of Arizona – in the period just after the election, and showed it to McCain – additional findings.

‘McCain was sufficiently disturbed by what he read to take it to FBI director James Comey himself personally, they had a five minute meeting the two men, very little was said, McCain turned it over to him and is now awaiting what the FBI’s response is to that information.

      No, this shouldn’t scare you. What’s coming next week or maybe next month, probably that should scare you. I’m expecting something like Trump sprinkles aborted fetuses into his corn flakes or he’s high priest at some satanic church where they’ve been sacrificing teenage girls to the Dark Lord for the past 25 years.

        I have a hunch Trump will be impeached before his sixth month in office. I’m no fan of Mike Pence (not by any stretch of the imagination) but at least I could sleep at night knowing he has the nuclear codes.

          You’ve GOT to be kidding! If Mike Pence becomes elected, I’m afraid he’ll bomb Planned Parenthood clinics around the country. Not only that, you’ve heard of “Sharia” law? Pence will start the “Christian” law right here in the states. No thank you. I’ll take tRump over Pence. Sure tRump is an idiot, but he’s not maniacal.

        Did McCain sit on it? I suppose the timeline is emerging but the most recent date I saw on the document was mid-December. If McCain sat on it, it wasn’t for very long.

      I watched some of the post press conference coverage on CNN and msnbc, and was relieved to see that most were really appalled at what tRump had to say, and how he behaved, and legal experts really ripped into the attempts to defend and enable the business conflicts that are so outrageous. Looks like major court challenges to tRump’s conflicts of interests and unlawful biz dealings once he takes office.
      Finally the press begins to address the horror of this election, but it is a bit late.
      I am scared, also too.

    If the FBI did anything less than open up a full investigation, something is rotten in the FBI.

    Look — we liberals are smarter than the conservatives. Our critical thinking skills tells us that this might be a fraudulent document. It looks genuine to me but I don’t assume it.

    This I do know: We need a full, independent audit of this election.

    Here is what we need a full investigation and transparent revealing of:

    1) Russian influence
    2) Hacking influence
    3) Role of FBI.
    4) What the GOP leadership knew and when they knew it.
    5) Trump’s business connections to Russia and other foreign powers
    6) Trump’s campaign connections to Russian and other foreign powers
    7) State roles in voter suppression
    8) Integrity of voting machines and counting.
    and, lest I seem partisan:
    9) Cases and role of voter fraud
    10) Role of media in the election.
