Report: At Least 50 Trump Electoral College Voters Illegitimately Seated

Raw Story‘s TBogg tipped off the Interwebs to yet more evidence that Trump was “elected” by a rigged system:

At Least 50 Trump Electors Were Illegitimately Seated as Electoral College Members

More than 50 Electoral College members who voted for Donald Trump were ineligible to serve as presidential electors because they did not live in the congressional districts they represented or held elective office in states legally barring dual officeholders.

That stunning finding is among the conclusions of an extensive 1,000-plus page legal briefing prepared by a bipartisan nationwide legal team for members of Congress who are being urged to object to certifying the 2016 Electoral College results on Friday. …

Clayton is hoping that sufficient numbers of Republicans in Congress will not vote to ratify the Electoral College results, thus depriving Trump of the 270 Electoral College votes he needs to win the presidency. If that transpires, the House would then decide between the three top Electoral College vote-getters—Trump, Hillary Clinton and Colin Powell, he said. But before any of that can happen, there needs to be a formal challenge to ratifying the 2016 Electoral College results in Friday’s joint session of Congress, which is where the research finding that scores of Trump votes were illegally cast comes in.

“We have reason to believe that there are at least 50 electoral votes that were not regularly given or not lawfully certified (16 Congressional District violations and 34 Dual Office-Holder violations),” the executive summary of the Electoral Vote Objection Packet said. “The number could be over a hundred. We urge you to prepare written objections for January 6.”

It is, of course, yet another very long shot, but it is also a litmus test for that particular strain of “originalist” Constitutional conservatism – and whether or not those who follow it choose
to do so selectively.

TBogg summarizes several details of the report:

“Specifically, at least 16 electors lived outside the congressional districts they represented in violation of state statutory residency requirements, and at least 34 electors held dual offices, in direct violation of statutes prohibiting dual-office holding,” the summary states, adding that they violated two sections of the U.S. Constitution.

Among the states involved are North Carolina — with seven possible illegal electors — as well as Indiana, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.

One of the electors cited is Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi who has been closely allied with the Trump campaign and has drawn scrutiny for illegal campaign contributions from the Trump Foundation.

Bondi let go on the cheap. I think it was the guy in Texassistan who got 6 figures for the same ‘deal’.

      • CB January 5th, 2017 at 19:27

Bondi is a criminal… as is Trump… as are most Republican representatives, actually…

I investigated some of the charges, and it appears to be merely violations of state constitutions that have occurred. I would suggest there is more than enough evidence to boot the question to the House, as per the 12th amendment, even without taking into account this particular criminal behaviour.

Can you imagine president Colin Powell?

What a relief that would be…

Looks like Trump was right after all…
The system was rigged, (in his favor)

We need to file civil lawsuits for damages against these electors, if nothing happens in time. We need to drag this out in court. This presidency can be made illegitimate in the court of public opinion. This is an opening we should not ignore. The resistance can succeed.

    Disrupt, disrupt, disrupt.

  4. fahvel January 5th, 2017 at 11:21

as written, the above article says, without doubt, that orange thing is not the elected candidate. so, what will be the lie this time?

  5. mea_mark January 5th, 2017 at 11:57

Congressional directory here. Call yours today & ask that they object to the EC certification during roll call tomorrow. We should not have a illegitimate president. We must object to this carnival like atmosphere where anything goes and laws mean nothing. We need competent elected officials, not bloviating buffoons.

Feel free to provide REAL data to support your position. Cuz if this is FAKE as you assert, you should be able to effectively debunk it. Point us to that credible data.

    • mea_mark January 5th, 2017 at 17:16

I hope they vote to break the law. It will help prove how corrupt and dishonest they are. Forever tarnish the bastards for electing an incompetent buffoon.

  11. trees January 6th, 2017 at 14:25

    Lol…..

    Snopes sez..

“The group Americans Take Action made the news in early January 2017 with their announcement that, having been unsuccessful in their efforts to urge Republican electors to reject Donald Trump and vote for “a more qualified president,” they were seeking to invalidate the results of the Electoral College vote because “more than 50 electors were ineligible”

The lengthy documentation offered by Americans Take Action argues (among other things) that some electors lived outside the congressional districts they represented (in violation of state requirements, that some electors also held state or local offices (in violation of state requirements that they not hold multiple offices), and that some states did not provide “two distinct lists of votes” (one for President and one for Vice President) as required by the U.S. Constitution.

Critics contend that none of these arguments is particularly persuasive, holding that the Constitution grants state legislatures the power to appoint electors in any manner of their choosing, that serving as an elector does not constitute “holding an office” (and that, in any case, electors have long been drawn from the ranks of elected officials without objection), and that the formality of submitting dual lists is one that has long been (in the words of Shakespeare) “more honored in the breach than the observance.”

Nonetheless, Clayton hopes that when the Congress meets in joint session to count the electoral votes on 6 January 2017, “sufficient numbers of Republicans in Congress will not vote to ratify the Electoral College results, thus depriving Trump of the 270 Electoral College votes he needs to win the presidency.”

But as the referenced legal briefing notes, only two objections have ever been properly raised in Congress under the provisions of the Electoral Count Act of 1887, and both were overruled. The chances that Republicans in the House and Senate are going to uphold dozens of different objections (based on premises they have no time to investigate) and vote against certifying the election of a Republican candidate as President of the United States are, to most observers, very slim indeed.

Please, someone post an Olbermann rant video…
