Joe Walsh somehow needed to reintroduce this falsehood, which is why he thinks “Obama hates Israel.”

In recent weeks, ex-Congressman Walsh had won the tentative embrace of some Democrats for his principled stand against the incoming Trump administration and Russian meddling in the 2016 election. However, the accused deadbeat dad and former Tea Party darling reverted to form in his attack on the president.

The “Obama is a Secret Muslim” canard is one of the enduring phantasms of the right-wing “post-truth” era, a throwback to when Republicans simultaneously accused Obama of being a Muslim while loudly declaiming his Chicago Christian pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

    This is the current make up of the security council. Settlements resolution was 14-0 with the United States abstaining. So according to this jerk, the leaders of all these countries are also secret Muslims?

    On a side note, given the ongoing bromance Trump worshipers have with Putin, I wonder how they reconcile Putin’s support of the UN measure with their condemnation of President Obama abstaining. I am sure they will justify it somehow. Hypocritical, irrational, BS explanations are one thing Trump nation is quite good at…

    The most important point is, what difference would it make if he were a Muslim? The reality is, he’s a Christian who doesn’t attend services regularly, as far as we know. Why is whatever religion he practices or doesn’t practice even relevant? trump claims to be a Christian, but he also doesn’t seem to attend services regularly. The difference is, trump is a horrible person who denigrates individuals and groups all the time. Obama seems to be a much better person than trump. That seems to be the important issue here. And I would love to hear some journalist point that out.

        I offered no value judgment, just a fact I remembered. Which is a strange thing to say as a non muslim, regardless of circumstance. If he’s a muslim, so be it. It’s the potential deception that is suspicious.

          It IS on video, and unmistakably a mis-speak.
          Considering that at the time he was being confronted with a question that no other candidate for president had ever been faced with, and considering that the same people who were screaming “SECRET MUSLIM!!!” were also whinging about him attending a church lead by Rev. Wright, I’m just surprised he didn’t start bitch-slapping “reporters”.
          Talk about “fake news”, the last eight goddam years has been a tidal wave of it from the right.

    there has never (to my knowledge) been a president who didn’t claim to be Christian in some form or another. JFK was catholic, and I don’t know what Washington was, whether he simply didn’t attend church.

    it bothers me however, that in 2016, the racial divisions still seem to matter. Christian, Muslim, black, white, who gives a rat’s arse?

    Let’s not waste a lot of time and energy fretting about Joe Walsh. He probably is as slow at picking up on the humiliation as he is at figuring out that President Obama is not a Muslim..
    But I understand that there are high hopes in his becoming a comrade in the new administration. But he’s probably going to have to drop out of the Joe McCarthy club to be really accepted.
