Twitter to hand over info on user who sent seizure inducing tweet to Newsweek reporter

Kurt Eichenwald may have a case.

Four days ago, an unidentified Twitter user tweeted a seizure-inducing animation at Newsweek and Vanity Fair writer Kurt Eichenwald, who has epilepsy. Now, Eichenwald has taken the first step toward identifying the user. In response to a civil suit filed by Eichenwald this week in Dallas district court, Twitter has agreedto hand over all relevant subscriber data for the user in question. The attack came in apparent retaliation for Eichenwald’s aggressive coverage of President-elect Trump.

While Eichenwald has yet to file criminal charges, the civil suit was sufficient for an ex parte order from the district judge. Twitter subsequently agreed to expedited relief, declining to challenge the order or demand further evidence from Eichenwald. The next step is likely to be a lawsuit against wireless carriers or service providers implicated by Twitter’s records, who will have records linking IP addresses and other metadata to the attacker’s legal name.

      i just read the petition. i know that asshole is pissing himself now knowing that he’s in serious trouble. Kurt posted the petition on twitter so you know that anyone that was associated with that asshat should take note to not do something so damn disgusting.

          I am not going to sit back and watch it take place, I am going to hold the flame under my representatives a$$ and let them know what I expect from them. I am from a liberal state so they vote along with what I would want, but I will let them know they are supported. The squeaky wheels put rump in office, so I am hoping the squeaky wheels will get him removed. Don’t be silent my friend, we have work to do.

    Please follow through with this suit. we need to own the words we use on the internet. I like to kick dirt on people sometimes, but they have to be kicking a bit at me first. I don’t regret anything I have done on the internet, and I would never screw with a person’s health. Who the hell does this? If they are willing to do that, they will do a lot worse if they aren’t held accountable.

      I have his twitter account bookmarked because I like his reporting. I don’t use social media myself. I saw his posts about this happening and wanted to scream. I don’t think this is the first time these animals have sent him seizure-inducing animations in the past few months, but previous times he was not affected by it before he deleted their posts. Maybe his wife screens them for him?
      What a sick world we live in.
