52% of Republicans incorrectly think Trump won popular vote

Posted by | December 18, 2016 10:47 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

That’s because the braggart is using his victory tour to claim a landslide, and the bloviator says he would have won the popular vote if it weren’t for all the “illegals.”

There is absolutely no evidence supporting Trump’s claim. The source of that claim is the conspiracy site InfoWars, which also promotes the theory that the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre were child actors…

Nevertheless, Trump’s argument is taking hold. In a recent poll, 52% of Republicans believe that Trump won the popular vote. The online poll surveyed more than 1,000 people from December 6–12.

Votes casted by Latinos and African Americans don’t count.
Ergo, Donnie won the popular vote.

The mind of a Trump supporter is indeed a scary place.

100% of repugs are dumber than a box of rocks. There is a reason the lifelong dem changed to repug when he decided to run. He definitely chose the correct party to wallow around with and use that ignorance.

In order to even make the accusation that liberals are as stupid as you right wingers, you have to make up BS. In order to demonstrate the extent to which so many right wingers are idiots, we just quote the news, and your posts…

      • Robert M. Snyder December 18th, 2016 at 23:35

Arc99, I’m sure you would acknowledge that in both parties there are many people who are not intellectually gifted. Those people are the ones who are suffering the most due to immigration, outsourcing, and automation.

Think about the students in your elementary school classroom. Some of them were very bright, and some were not so bright. I suspect that you, and most of us who contribute here, were in that gifted group. But most of the kids who learned more slowly probably didn’t get college degrees. Many of them probably went into the types of jobs that are now being outsourced, automated, or given to immigrants who are willing to work for a lower wage.

Trump gave many working-class people the impression that he respected the work that they do. Hillary’s “deplorable” comment gave the opposite impression. She failed to convince working-class people that she would work on their behalf.

When you use words like “stupid” and “idiot”, I get the impression that you do not feel a connection with the millions of working-class people who wake up every morning and worry that today might be the day when they lose their job to an immigrant, a foreign worker, or an automated system.

It remains to be seen whether Trump will actually make life better for working-class people. But it isn’t hard to understand why they didn’t vote for the person who called them “deplorable”. As long as people on the Left keep using words like “stupid” and “idiot”, they can expect to keep losing elections.

        • whatthe46 December 19th, 2016 at 00:27

“Those people are the ones who are suffering the most due to immigration, outsourcing, and automation.”correction, immigration has not economically hurt anyone, tRump however has harmed Americans since he outsources his products to 6 + different countries and has in fact imported foreigners to this country to work in his hotels, restaurants and just recently at Mar-aLago, and he also buys his steel from China instead of purchasing American steel, and Carrier is going to automate a company that tRump has an investment in.

          • Robert M. Snyder December 19th, 2016 at 01:25

“immigration has not economically hurt anyone”

Maybe not anyone that you know personally.

Suppose that you are a single mom who cleans rooms at a hotel. Twenty years ago, the hotel had to pay women like you a decent wage because the local factories offered lots of well-paying jobs for women like you.

Then the factories started outsourcing their work to China, so the labor market was flooded with women looking for work. The hotel no longer had to pay as well because there were lots of women chasing few jobs, so wages went down.

Now imagine thousands of immigrant women move into your area. At this point, the hotel can pay minimum wage, because the immigrants will be happy to do the work for that wage.

It doesn’t matter whether we outsource the work or insource the labor. Both of these drive wages down and push American workers out of the labor market.

We need immigration in order to maintain our population, because American women do not have enough children to keep the population at its current level. I don’t know anybody who wants to stop legal, controlled immigration. But illegal, uncontrolled immigration is harming American workers.

Personally, I think the best solution is to get tough on employers of all sizes. Every employer should be required to check every worker’s immigration status. Anyone who is not here legally should be refused employment. Employers who break the rules should be severely punished. And that would include people who hire illegal immigrants to trim their trees or watch their children. This crap has got to stop.

I recently got an estimate from a lawn service for treating my lawn. The contractor told me that he sends his workers to class and they are all legally licensed to apply fertilizers and pesticides in an environmentally safe manner. But he said there are lots of people who will do the work for less money. These people don’t understand how to use the chemicals responsibly. This is bad for the environment, and it probably exposes the workers to risks. When you have “undocumented” workers doing this kind of work, this is the kind of stuff that happens.

Mexico and Guatemala need to get their act together and start providing better opportunities for their people. People who come to America and prosper should try to find ways to make their countries of origin better for the people who they left behind. If we claim to care about Mexicans, then we should care about ALL Mexicans, not just the few who are able to make it across the border. For every “dreamer” who grows up in America, there are 20 more children who will grow up in Mexico. I am in favor of solutions that will help ALL of those children, not just the lucky few.

            • whatthe46 December 19th, 2016 at 01:31

if you’re white you were born privileged, and you didn’t take advantage of an education and have to work in a hotel as a housekeeper, don’t blame it on immigration.

              • Robert M. Snyder December 19th, 2016 at 01:50

I dare you to say that to the white, single mom who serves you at a hotel. It’s one thing to write those words on a website. But when you’re looking directly into the eyes of a hard-working mother of two children who is struggling to make ends meet, I don’t think you would find it easy to tell her that she is “privileged”. For all you know, she could be a victim of parental or spousal abuse who grew up in extreme poverty. There are many reasons why people don’t get a good education. And maybe she didn’t win the genetic lottery. Maybe she just wasn’t born with as much intelligence as you have.

There are many kinds of bias, and “intelligence bias” is one of them. If you were born with a high IQ, then you are privileged in ways that low-IQ people will never be. If you were the parent of a low-IQ child, then you would see all of the obstacles that they face.

When you say “have to work in a hotel as a housekeeper”, you are demonstrating your own intelligence bias. Do you think that everyone has what it takes to get a college degree?

In the county where I live, only 13.2% of people have a bachelor’s degree or higher. Per-capita income is about $21,000. All of the good jobs have left our former coal-mining region.

                • whatthe46 December 19th, 2016 at 01:58

i don’t care if you write a novel, i’m not reading all your diatribe. you are attacking people who work hard and pay their taxes, something which tRump does neither of. so, you can get pissy if you want. ask me if i give a damn. if a single white woman is working in a hotel to support her family i will not shame her, but, don’t act like it’s the fault of an immigrant. an immigrant can’t get the college education her white counterpart can. fact.

                  • Robert M. Snyder December 19th, 2016 at 02:18

The idea that anyone can attend college if they want to is pure fantasy. Why do you keep ignoring the intelligence issue? Some people don’t have a very high IQ, and that limits their options in life. Why can’t you at least acknowledge that fact? Don’t you have any friends or relatives who have learning difficulties? Don’t you care about people like that?

                    • whatthe46 December 19th, 2016 at 03:04

i’m well aware of that. just leave immigrants out of it. whatever circumstances that have caused them to not be able to attend college, to the point where they have to a job in housekeeping isn’t an immigrants fault.

                    • Robert M. Snyder December 19th, 2016 at 08:38

You are clinging to this idea (that immigrants do not affect the labor market) the way that fundamentalist Christians cling to the idea that the earth is only 6,000 years old and evolution never happened. It doesn’t matter how many facts I present. You’ve got your fingers in your ears.

It is a scientific fact that adding more workers to an existing labor market drives down wages. My wife is a registered nurse. A big part of her job is cleaning the poopy bottoms of elderly people who can’t get to the bathroom. Yes, you need a college education for this job, because it also involves giving people injections and EKGs. There is a shortage of nurses right now, so nursing wages are pretty good. Some hospitals in Florida are actually recruiting nurses from other countries such as South Africa. But imagine what would happen if 100,000 foreign nurses suddenly decided to move to America. Nursing wages would go down. This is how labor markets work. It’s not just low-skilled jobs. It’s all jobs. It’s called The Law of Supply and Demand.

What a cop out. Why don’t you grow a spine and deal with the issues for once, instead of throwing around baseless allegations?

Nobody cares about those labels anymore. You can call me a hater or anything you like. It doesn’t change the fact that most Americans want to see better regulation of the immigration process. You are living in a black-and-white fantasy world where everyone who disagrees with you is a bad person. Wake up, little child. In the adult world, issues are complicated. Grow a spine and start dealing with reality.

                    • whatthe46 December 20th, 2016 at 21:57

one other thing. while you’re riding on your high horse over a self-centered ass like tRump, who doesn’t give a damn about the American working as a housekeeper who happens to be a single parent, his nominee for Labor Secretary is anti-labor. also don’t forget that they oppose minimum wage hike and thinks that 10$ an hr is too much. and these very same dummies that voted for tRump are the very people that falls in this category.

                    • Robert M. Snyder December 20th, 2016 at 23:21

If you think that Democrats really care about people making minimum wage, call a Democratic congress person and ask them whether they support an automatic cost-of-living increase in the minimum wage. They might give you lip service, but I guarantee that they will not go to Washington and fight for it.

Chris Matthews talked about this on his show one evening. He said that Democrats oppose cost-of-living increases because they want the minimum wage issue to keep coming up every few years so they can beat Republicans over the head with it. Meanwhile, the minimum wage has less purchasing power every year due to inflation.

If they really cared about working folks, Democrats would demand an automatic cost-of-living increase. But they care about the Democratic Party more than they care about people making minimum wage. They are using these people as pawns.

Most business people would prefer to see a small, predictable, annual increase in the minimum wage. Right now, it is difficult for businesses to plan.

Republicans are not counting on Trump to hold down the minimum wage or to hold down government spending. I wouldn’t be surprised if they raised it to $10 or more under the Trump administration.

If they do, I will write to my congressman and urge him to push for an automatic cost-of-living increase so that this issue finally goes away and minimum wage workers don’t lose ground every year as the cost of living goes up.

You know NYC, SF & LA California ($3 T GDP), Seattle Tacoma, Washington State, etc all have $15 Min wages? Our Blue state economies thrive via 64% of U.S. Record $19 T GDP +4.4% APR. Meanwhile red states continue sinking with just 36% GDP. ‘It’s the Blue states increased disposable income…’

In Seattle, the increase in minimum wage is being phased in much slower and is only at $13 today for those franchises whose chain employs more than 500 workers. It will reach $15 for such large establishments, but only for those not paying health insurance in 2017; it will not become generally binding until 2022. The city of Chicago will also be raising the minimum wage to $13 by 2019. It started at $10 on July 1, 2015. California will lift the state’s minimum wage to $15 by 2022 and New York State by 2018. In other words, there is a movement afoot to recognize that market outcomes are unbearable to a very large segment of the population. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/making-sense/column-effect-seattles-15-minimum-wage/

“Our Blue state economies thrive via 64% of U.S. Record $19 T GDP +4.4% APR. Meanwhile red states continue sinking with just 36% GDP”

I’m not sure which states you’re counting, but how does that work out on a per-capita basis? (i.e. GDP per capita in Blue America vs. Red America)

                    • Obewon December 21st, 2016 at 00:32

Here’s how it looked in 2012:

“The average GDP per person for a blue state is $55,194 and the average GDP per person for a red state is $48,725.”

                      http://politicsthatwork.com/graphs/size-red-blue-economy

The whole red/blue state/county thing is problematic. For example, in 2012, Romney won Centre County PA by a mere 20 votes out of a total 67374 votes cast.

                      http://www.politico.com/2012-election/results/president/pennsylvania/

So the county was red, but just barely. If eleven people had switched their votes from Romney to Obama, it would have been blue. So what does the red or blue color mean for a county like that?

                    • Obewon December 21st, 2016 at 00:55

Obviously what you “claim” if true plummeted as HRC’s 500 Blue counties won = 64% of U.S. Record $19 T GDP +4.4% APR-Q316 proved.

                    • Robert M. Snyder December 21st, 2016 at 00:59

Red state GDP per capita in 2012 ($48,725) was higher than Germany, the UK, Canada, France, Japan, Italy, and almost every other country in the world in 2015. Not too shabby.

US GDP remains roughly 1/4 of global GDP. Thx for proving my point. Lol! Below U.S. Record $19 T “current dollar” GDP +4.4% APR-Q316 proved: $59,375 average of GDP divided by 320 M.

furthermore, if you need to bitch about jobs, again, don’t blame immigrants, take a look at your own party of fk’n liars, the wealthy has no interest in American workers, only how to save more and make more for themselves. case in point.

It amazes me that the party of family values elected a pussy grabbing reality TV star.

They no longer can claim any kind of moral high ground.

What psychiatrist would donate grey matter in order to evaluate the deplorable’s, you brain does better when you deprive it from oxygen rather than to speak with one of “those”.

…and many Democrats fail to realize that if elections were decided by the popular vote, both Trump and Clinton would have campaigned differently. So nobody really knows how that would have turned out.

    • whatthe46 December 19th, 2016 at 00:21

then she would have won by 20mil.

Pretty much 100% of Republicans believe that Trump won the only vote that matters.

Question, “If Trump won, which I believe everyone here is willing to admit, then why do liberals keep trying to assert the “popular vote” as being of any importance, or significance??”

What is your point, if you’re not claiming that Hillary is the “true” winner?

    Please explain.

    • oldfart December 20th, 2016 at 01:38

      It’s a liberal thing, you’ll never understand.
Don’t worry so much, NOBODY’S perfect.
He didn’t win the POPULAR vote.
And Hillary is no longer in the picture either…You’ll figure it out eventually…Maybe… Here’s a hint, after Jan 20th, don’t drop your soap.
      And he’s NOT my president…
I am holding you accountable from now to as long as he is in office.
It BETTER be great. I ain’t holdin my breath.
