Rogue electors have anti-Trump plan

John Kasich is their alternative pick.

Advocates of the long-shot bid to turn the Electoral College against Donald Trump have been in contact with close allies of Hillary Clinton, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, but the Clinton camp — and Clinton herself — have declined to weigh in on the merits of the plan.

Clinton’s team and the Democratic National Committee have steadfastly refused to endorse the efforts spearheaded by a group of electors in Colorado and Washington state. But, as with the ongoing recounts initiated by Green Party nominee Jill Stein, the Clinton team has not categorically rejected them, leaving the collection of mainly Democratic electors to push forward with no explicit public support from the failed Democratic nominee or any other prominent party leaders…

The electors leading the anti-Trump push say they’re operating without regard to the Clinton campaign’s views and without its assistance. To some leaders of the anti-Trump effort, the lack of formal Democratic Party engagement is an asset as they attempt to woo Republicans.

“We’re really doing this on our own,” said Polly Baca, a Democratic elector from Colorado and organizer of “Hamilton Electors,” the group encouraging Republican defections from Trump. “This is something we have to do as electors. This is our responsibility.”

…The Democratic electors have already revealed that they’re close to a consensus pick for whom they will vote: Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Kasich is increasingly seen as the most acceptable Republican alternative to electors on both sides of the aisle, according to multiple electors familiar with the conversations. They note that Kasich defeated Trump in Ohio’s primary, that the governor boasts a high approval rating in his state and that Kasich was reportedly under consideration to be Trump’s vice president before he selected Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

At this point, I am quite willing to surrender to my nihlistic impulses. Let the EC gathering be a free for all, and we end up with Paul Ryan as President of the United States.

It could not possibly be any worse than what we have now..

Sure, Trump worshipers will b*tch and moan, but it would be entirely Constitutional. Nothing in the Constitution defines how the EC delegates must vote.

“Sure, Trump worshipers will b*tch and moan, ”
      The more, the merrier !!
There’s no escaping the fact that no matter who ends up being president, congress is still controlled by republicans.

I suppose if they can get enough electors to vote for Kasich so that no one wins and it goes to the House, that would mean the house could then elect Kasich since he would be in the top three that the electors choose. I thought Kasich was going to be the GOP nominee to begin with, it would be interesting if he ended up as pres. Certainly far better than a Jack-O-Lantern with a strange fire burning in its head.

Slightly O/T but interesting article on what might be the cause of the orange one’s memory problems … http://www.businessinsider.com/why-donald-trump-cant-seem-to-remember-anything-he-said-2016-12

and you will still have an undemocratically elected head of state. What is wrong with you people? One person, one vote and that’s it!!!!

That’s no different from any other American president.

They’re all elected by an undemocratic system that doesn’t even remotely resemble “one person, one vote”.

People who are pushing for changes to the system, to make it more democratic, have every reason to want faithless electors – it forces the discussion onto the flaws of the system, for one thing. It is also a way to prevent what most such people see as the worst possible result – a Trump presidency. Plus, it gives government more reason to reform the system, since it makes the House vote for president, something they are loathe to do because it means the president’s failures become the House’s failures (but the president’s successes don’t work the same way).

A Texas elector may join with the #HamiltonElectors and vote for Kasich … https://apnews.com/234b3ebbcd2945ac94b748baf7223715/Texas-Republican-elector-says-he-won't-cast-ballot-for-Trump?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP

In this new pus*y grabbing America your questions and concerns would appear to be valid and quite sensible…
However staying above it all (AKA avoiding a sh*t storm)
is the only way not to end up smelling like it.
