Google fixes ‘Dump Tower’ hack

Google has fixed the problem.

An unknown person took Donald Trump’s name out of the midtown building’s label on Google Maps Saturday.

A search for Trump Tower on Google Maps brought up an incorrect name for the President-elect’s residence. Instead, users saw the name “Dump Tower.”

…A spokesperson from Google Maps told PIX11 the name change from Trump to “Dump” has been fixed.

“Some inappropriate names were surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused. Our teams immediately took action and have fixed the issue,” the spokesperson said.

A popular hashtag on Twitter during the contentious election campaign was #DumpTrump.

At one point, someone on Twitter noticed that left of ‘Dump Tower’ on the map, the high rise had also been named in Russian…

…Users of the mapping service began noticing the new name for the Fifth Avenue building and the hotel on Columbus Circle on Saturday around 2pm and some took to social media to report it….

It is unclear whether the name change, which still appears sometimes in Google Maps as of early Sunday morning, means Google Maps was hacked. Google could not be immediately reached for comment.

Trump International Hotel and Tower also seemed to mysteriously disappear completely from Google Maps early Sunday.

    Maybe it should be renamed the “High Castle”, as that show is seeming highly prophetic.
