Does Donald Trump have ‘Pence envy’?

Punditry consensus appears to show Indiana Gov. Mike Pence won Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate against his Democratic rival, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine. And though that ought to be a nice consolation prize for Donald Trump — who, if nothing else, made the case for debate prep during last week’s prize fight — early reports allege the Republican presidential nominee isn’t happy with his new spot as second fiddle.
Worse than outright “dominating” the debate, Pence may have done so at the expense of his running mate. Never fully defending his candidate from Kaine’s criticism, Pence chose instead to pivot or wholly deny a Trump quote that’s easily Google-able.

Click here for reuse options!Pence’s strong performance may well prove to be a net negative for Pence’s relationship with Trump, and for the establishment Republicans hoping he would be a major player in a Trump administration. Trump likes loyalists and sycophants, and Pence’s strategy, while smart for his 2020 hopes, was neither particularly loyal nor particularly sycophantic. The result may be that Pence won the debate only to lose influence with Trump — and the conservatives celebrating tonight’s win might be experiencing a Pyrrhic victory.
It perhaps bears noting that the fact that these reports are even remotely plausible speaks to the immaturity of the Republican nominee, and his manifest unfitness for office.

i don’t see how they came to the conclusion he won. i didn’t see it. he clearly lied about every damn thing, Kaine was prepared and gave straight answers on policies and pence just shook his head the whole evening.
