Nicolle Wallace said, “The Republican Party…died in this room tonight,” after Trump’s Thursday night speech.

…Wallace declared on[Thursday night], “The Republican party that I worked for for two decades died in this room tonight.”

She specifically pointed to Trump’s beliefs in “protectionism, isolationism, and nativism,” calling these the kind of things Republicans like George W. Bush were so worried about.

“The voters picked this guy,” Wallace said. “THis is where the Republican party is now… The party I was part of for two decades is dead.

Maybe they can bring the Whigs back.

One hopes so, but the southern bigot states they will maintain state house majorities until we can fix the gerrymandering, dark money and the deliberate disenfranchisement of minority voters.

Not sure we can do it, but nationally we could enact a law that says all national election districts will be set by non-partisan committee.

Don’t see any obvious constitutional issues.

The Repulsive party has been dead a lot longer than just one day. Let’s see: Nixon…Ford…Reagan…GHW Bush…W…and now the crowning jewel…candidate Rump. This doesn’t even account for all the other Repulsive clowns in Congress, governors, state and local governments. If Rump wins then stick a fork in America…we are done. Get out and vote for Hillary whether you like her or not because the alternative is very unhealthy for the country and world!!

The GOP has been going down hill since Eisenhower. And even Ike wasn’t much of a Republican.

Now is the time for Americans to push for preferential voting like we have here in Australia. A large number of conservatives, who would normally resist any change to the electoral system because of ‘tradition’, etc, will be looking at Trump and going “we need to do something about this”. But they know, right now, that their realistic choices are Trump or Clinton, and conservatives are unlikely to support Clinton, either.

Once you have preferential voting, spoiler candidates are rarely a problem.

Note that it doesn’t remove it entirely – in our recent election, in the electorate of Melbourne Ports, we have a situation where the Greens and Labor candidates are very close in the running for second place after other preferences are distributed – whichever one gets into second place will be in the final count against the Liberal party (that’s our right-wing party). If Labor stays in second place, they’ll get the lion’s share of preferences from Greens voters, and win. If the Greens get ahead of Labor, then Labor voters’ preferences will decide who wins… and it could be Greens, but it could also be Liberals.

That last part isn’t particularly relevant to my point, just a fun fact, for those who might have a slight interest in hearing things about politics outside of America.

…Wallace declared on[Thursday night], “The Republican party that I worked for for two decades died in this room tonight.” Trump / Pence are self canceling scientific illiterates.
