Trump: U.S. won’t default because it prints money

Posted by | May 9, 2016 13:05 | Filed under: Economy Politics

Donald Trump’s answer to default is to just print more money.

“People said I want to go and buy debt and default on debt — these people are crazy. This is the United States government. First of all, you never have to default because you print the money, I hate to tell you, OK? So there’s never a default,” Trump said on CNN’s “New Day.”

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee echoed that sentiment during an interview on Fox Business, saying, “A lot of the papers said, ‘Donald Trump wants to go and start negotiating with creditors.’ First of all, you don’t have to think about this, but we print the money.”

So according to this dope, when China lent us the $1.2 trillion we owe them, they sent us 12,000,000,000 hundred dollar bills?

Well in essence he is correct. America can’t go bankrupt per se because the government decides how much money it has. It can tank its economy with hyperinflation a la Venezuela and foreign countries may stop trading with us, but that is a different story. As I noted in the other post, the US in essence could destroy the world economy by simply paying all of its debts today by “printing” the money it needs to pay them, The dollar becomes worthless in the process and global trade would likely implode as the US would not be able to afford to buy anything anymore.

There are not enough hours in the day to make you understand how wrong you are but I will give you one bit of information….how strong do you believe a blank piece of paper is when you bring it to the store to purchase an item? Granted, you may con a few morons to take your piece of paper, but eventually your piece of paper that is not backed by anything of value will not be accepted by anyone for anything. Its not rocket science, it is common sense.

I agree with you. That is why I say it would destroy the economy in the process by leading to hyper inflation.

          Sorry, I misread your comment.

Jimmy is right we can pay all our debts off now if we wanted to, but yeah, it would crash the world economy and make the dollar near worthless. It is certainly a one time shot that would ruin things for a very long time.

          I know, I misread. :(

The thing is, this is no real way out, it’s a hole the country digs with no way out in sight.

Ah, so Trump’s new debt plan for the United States will be modeled after the nation of Zimbabwe.

Mint 20 1 trillion dollar coins, pay off the 17 trillion debt and bank the other 3 trillion and poof, new roads, bridges, hospitals, electric grid, internet, health care and golden parachute retirement for everyone without raising a penny in taxes….Quick, somebody give this idea to Trump, the man is a genius…he says so everyday…he’ll geterdun.
