Waldman: Trump’s description of the economy totally false

Posted by | April 28, 2016 21:00 | Filed under: Economy Politics

Paul Waldman in the Washington Post knows it’s a matter of which narrative the American voter will believe; but only one is true.

I can’t stress this enough: Republicans argue that if we just cut taxes on the wealthy and reduce regulations on corporations, then the economy will explode in a supernova of prosperity for all. You can call this belief ahistorical, or unsupported by facts, or baseless or implausible, but if you want to be frank you’d have to say that it’s absolutely lunatic…

Trump’s story is the same one other Republicans tell, with the addition of the idea that “bad deals” on trade have had a crippling effect on the country. For the moment we’ll put aside the merits of Trump’s claim that imposing enormous tariffs on Chinese goods will cause all those jobs sewing clothing and assembling electronics to come pouring into the United States, but the political question around Trump’s story is whether people will believe his over-the-top description of both what’s happening now and the transformation he will be able to produce.

    >> Republicans argue that if we just cut taxes on the wealthy and reduce regulations on corporations,

This is _the very policy_ that crashed the economy in 2008.

And they are pushing it again?

Any normal American who supports this is a fool.

Well the fact rump told his audience, “I will make all of you rich, you will be so rich you will be sick of money” (or something similar), and they clapped and went along with what he was saying makes me pretty sure the rubes would believe anything King rube says.

Of course, it’s impossible to make everybody rich. Rich is relative, like tall, short, smart… That’s as stupid as saying people aren’t poor if their is a refrigerator in the home. (Another brilliant Republican idea.)

“I will give every American a unicorn that farts glitter.”

      Trump followers applaud wildly…

and then sucker punch a black woman.

Wondering……..will Drumpf choose one of the nitwits above to be his running mate?

      • William April 29th, 2016 at 10:53

I think his running mate will be Chris Christy, instilling real fear into the hearts of the vice presidents kitchen staff.

Yes, some people will believe tRump’s economic fairy tales because they know as little as he does. But anyone who either remembers the 80’s or knows how to use Google will know that “trickle down” only makes the rich richer. They don’t take all that money they’re not paying in taxes (taxes they can well afford to pay, and much more) to create jobs. They dump in investments somewhere, and it’s either taxed at the too-low capital gains rate, or not at all because it’s offshore.

I find it interesting that in the real world, the economy is getting so much better, but in the world of hate, bigotry and right wing fear mongering……not so good. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/04/28/40-layoffs-as-glenn-beck-s-blaze-empire-continues-its-decline-and-fall.html

The one thing that Trump has learned during his camaign…truth and facts are silly, just make up shit that generates applause and hoots and hollering. He proudly announced that when the crowd gets quiet, he just has to yell “Wall”, and they all wake screaming and clapping.
Why would he even bother to state anything factual now, just more sound bites around rage and riches for all.
