Pope urges acceptance of gays, the divorced, non traditional families
Pope Francis is once again reaching out to the disenfranchised.
Click here for reuse options!Pope Francis put his shoulder to the doors of the Catholic Church and shoved them open a little wider Friday, calling for the church to be more tolerant in practice, while not changing any official doctrines.
He urged priests around the world to be more accepting of gay men and lesbians, divorced Catholics and other people living in what the church considers “irregular” situations.“A pastor cannot feel that it is enough simply to apply moral laws … as if they were stones to throw at people’s lives,” Francis writes in a sweeping paper outlining his stance on family matters.

Excellent! This Pope with a Masters in Chemistry proclaims ‘If you vote (R) Xenophobe you’ll burn in Hell throughout eternity!’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BaksqH2YXQ

he knows one can be a good republican or a good Christian, but one can not be both because they they are not compatible to each other.

No, he does not have a college degree, his chemistry background is equivalent to trade school I have read. That may seem really low, but beats most people’s knowledge in the subject.

Does anyone have a link to the Pope’s full statement?
I’m not finding it on-line.

The pope is saying what almost all Catholics believe.
At least the ones I know. They use birth control. They love and accept divorced people. They have abortions. And, most of them have turned-around on the gay issue, just like the American public.
And, ironically, lots of Catholics think their own priest is gay. And they accept him for who he is.

Of course. After all, I’m sure that gays, lesbians and divorced people use the same currency as straight and married people.

Religious people wouldn’t be such a$$holes if more of them acted like the Pope.

or my mother, who is an incredibly generous, loving, accepting human being.
right now mom is in rehab (she’s fine, just had a little fall…didn’t break anything but when you are 95 it’s still a shock to the body).
And WHAT is she doing??? taking the time to be understanding of her bed-mate’s family. Being an shoulder to unload on, giving good advice and helping them through a tough time.
If EVERYONE who calls themselves “christian” lived their lives like my wonderful mom this world would truly be heaven

Your mom sounds like quite a woman….(and you’re a great daughter)
I wish her a speedy recovery
I have a mom like that also (91) and completely selfless…. We’re lucky to have them around at their age…:)

For a couple thousand years, Christianity has been more concerned about the benefit to the clergy and the church than they were about the flock they were supposed to be leading. One of the reasons why religion is generally fading in modern society.

that and…….realizing that the traditional religions that believe in great daddies in the sky can’t be possible…….space travel and science remove the need for fairy tales and fantasy.

Science neither proves nor disproves Gawd. In fact, over half of scientists profess to being believers. But the existence of Gawd isn’t where I take issue with religion. It’s the intervention of man, the placement of human beings as the sole spokesmen (almost always spokesmen) for Gawd’s will, thoughts, feelings. If there IS a Gawd, religion is the self-appointed middle-man. And most want you to pay for the privilege of having somebody tell you what THEY think Gawd wants. And who THEY think you should hate. And who THEY think you should sleep with… and for what purposes.

science doesn’t have to prove there isn’t a god, there is no reason to believe there is one. No evidence at all, so science is not responsible for religion at all. What science did was show us factual reasons for thunder and for other things people were frightened of and made up stories to sooth worried minds over.
And yes, religion gives some people power over others and it is a great cash cow for the churches.

One can make the same claim for complex notions like beauty, love and hope.
Either you’re wired to believe in them or not. There’s no proving it.
clemans April 9th, 2016 at 20:16
beauty would be up to each individual. It is a judgement, it isn’t something that is the same for everybody and it isn’t something one can see in that way. It is personal interpretation. You don’t have to believe in it or disbelieve in it. Love and hope are feelings, one either feels them or doesn’t…….it also doesn’t require belief. Feelings just happen and they will also be different for each person.
People without feelings maybe sociopaths.

This was just one of the stories I found when I was researching something from either Trevor Noah or Larry Wilmore’s shows last night. A comment was made that CT. was trying to remove the time limitations on filing sexual abuse…….pointing out that there is no limitations on filing charges for double parking. The Catholic church seems to be fighting protections for children…………STILL. The Pope needs to stop this by the church.

“Others disagree, including the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference, which has had priests lobby their flocks at Sunday Mass, and lobbyists work the Capitol halls in opposition to any changes to the civil statute of limitations. The Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania, another lobbying group, was not opposed to the original bill but is opposed to any changes that retroactively allow lawsuits”.
