Country legend Merle Haggard dies on 79th birthday

Merle Haggard had 40 number 1 hits.

He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994.

Haggard succumbed to double pneumonia, his manager said. He recently spent nearly two weeks in a Riverside, Calif., hospital. But he died at home, near Redding, Calif., Wednesday morning.

    The best some loser on Market Watch could post to this story was “if only it had been liberalism.”

    You cannot judge someone’s entire life as an entertainer by one song, but as someone in my 60’s I have to say I will never be able to forget how ‘Okie from Muskogee’ became the anthem of the Right in the late 1960’s. Merle could have disassociated himself from what it was made out to be but he didn’t.

    And I think that is all I better say..
