What Obama masterfully accomplished in Cuba
Posted by Alan | March 26, 2016 10:13 | Filed under: Good News Politics
He showed that the embargo doesn’t work, that Cuba’s leaders have used it to justify keeping their people poor. He talked to Raul Castro about human rights, and showed Cuba a slice of democracy. Cubans saw glimpse of what their country can and will be.
The President’s landmark trip to Cuba showed, yet again, what a masterful performer Obama is on the world stage. The press conference with Raul Castro was a masterpiece in and of itself. He went to Cuba to end the embargo and to encourage a change of regime in Cuba. He understood that the embargo justifies the Communist regime. Because of the embargo, the Castros are able to explain away Cuba’s terrible poverty as a result of foreign oppression, and justify their repressive political tactics as a means of national self-determination. Obama brought Raul Castro onto a stage and stripped away those justifications in front of the whole country. Not only that, but he forced Raul Castro to answer questions about human rights abuses from the American press. And Castro stumbled. He was not used to having to answer questions. And the people of Cuba saw him stumble. They were not used to seeing that.
Through this series of tiny gestures, Obama achieved what 50 years of American resistance to Cuba was not able to. He defused any lingering military tension. He showed the Cuban people that America has good intentions. And he managed to humiliate the Castros, utterly, without appearing, even in the slightest, aggressive. He did all that in a couple of hours. There’s only one word for it: genius.

I’m really going to miss him.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 14:29
I just don’t believe the people will just let him go away. Look at President Carter in his post President years. The GOOD Ones just keep getting Better. This MAN is still young and has a LOT MORE to contribute.
Annie March 26th, 2016 at 14:34
I agree, and I can’t wait to see that. He’s a good human being who makes me proud every day.

I have always been a Hilary supporter. i did not like Pres. Obama from his campaign against her in 2000. But, the day after he was elected he started to change my mind. He did’t go on a vacation after he was elected like all candidates do. He went to his office and went to work for two solid weeks getting ready to take office. This impressed me. I have not always agreed with him but my respect has steadily grown until now, I totally believe in him. It is NOW Hilary’s turn for four more years of Victories.
Annie March 26th, 2016 at 15:15
You’ve been reading my mind, haven’t you?
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 15:48
Sexy minds think alike. Don’t get all excited about my comment, I like to Joke and laugh. That is all. :+)
Annie March 26th, 2016 at 16:09
Your comment gave me the vapors, sir. Or maybe it was just a hot flash ;)
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 16:29
You’re lucky. I’m too old to get excited. :+)

President Obama is and always will be a true world leader.
He has restored America’s economy and our image around the world after the disastrous Bush/Cheney debacle.

In spite of what the losers on the right say.

The Cuban People just got a little taste of what we have been enjoying for almost eight years…PBO, has been one of our better Presidents for sure…History will judge his ranking in the Halls of Fame…Just one little point…if the Cuban People ever saw what was going on in the republican party…they would not be so welcoming….
Larry Schmitt March 26th, 2016 at 11:02
If a republican were in the White House, they wouldn’t have a chance to welcome him, because he wouldn’t have changed the status quo.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 14:24
Move over Ray Gun, we have a NEW GOD to follow.
Larry Schmitt March 26th, 2016 at 10:52
NPR was playing some of the reaction of Foxers while he was at the baseball game, a trip he had planned for months, instead of going to Brussels. What the hell was he supposed to accomplish there? Help out in the ER? That would be nothing more than a photo op, and of course he would catch hell for getting in the way. So again, no matter what he does, they bitch about it. Nothing new there.
William March 26th, 2016 at 11:06
The mission of Fox is to keep their viewers ignorant, and frightened.
Larry Schmitt March 26th, 2016 at 11:06
They’re very good at it, and their audience plays along.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 14:23
Now you’ve messed it up for me. I am laughing so hard, my eyes are running tears and I can’t see the Picture. :+)
William March 26th, 2016 at 11:03
Progress

Awesome photo!
Stealin’ it.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 14:21
This photograph should be Blown up Very large and hung in the halls of Congress. At least keep it for Pres. Obama’s library.
Larry Schmitt March 26th, 2016 at 11:20
Looks like a time traveling episode of Twilight Zone.
jybarz March 26th, 2016 at 12:28
Looks like a live museum.

Those are Russian made cars you think?

I think so.

A sight to Behold.
Suzanne McFly March 26th, 2016 at 12:07
He accomplished giving a huge middle finger to the republican members in Congress who have defied him on every instance he tried to use his Presidential ability and was denied. He showed how great the world could be if they listened.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 14:18
And He put that Middle Finger where they needed it the Most .
Suzanne McFly March 26th, 2016 at 16:28
But they had on a finger condom right? Cause that could get gross quick.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 16:31
I think it was a surgical glove like a Doctor waves in front of a guy. :+)
Suzanne McFly March 26th, 2016 at 16:35
That works
Red Mann March 26th, 2016 at 16:38
Like this guy.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 19:11
I think 80% of the U.S. population feels that way about the Retadican run Congress.
jybarz March 26th, 2016 at 12:35
Repukes eat your hearts.
Can’t ask you Zombies to eat each others brains because you’ve got none.
Reagan is Republicans’ REAL BULLSH!T!
OBAMA is America’s REAL DEAL!
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 14:17
I Still Believe in Hilary but isn’t there someway we can also keep Pres. Obama ?
clemans March 30th, 2016 at 15:31
we can call on her to appoint him to the Supreme Court……he is qualified.
The Original Just Me March 30th, 2016 at 15:38
He is a Constitutional Scholar. Good education and back ground. I believe he would be Politically Impartial and only Judge on Constitutional Merits. BUT, the HooRaws would go Berserk.
clemans March 30th, 2016 at 16:16
I consider him qualified, so in answer to your comment. all the more reason to do it!
That is what the GOP deserve after trying to say he can’t appoint a person to the Supreme Court.
smiles
The Original Just Me March 30th, 2016 at 16:40
I am for it but the man is tired. He needs and deserves a rest. But. later on down the road, YES ! Look at what three years out of government has done for Hilary. She is reinvigorated and ready to take on the ********’s .
clemans March 30th, 2016 at 17:02
she was busy getting her water fowl linear, so she needed the time. He wouldn’t need that. A new job, one that he already understands the significance of…..he would be job ready day one……and it is unlikely that the confirmation would be overnight. The GOP would have to try every trick.
The Original Just Me March 31st, 2016 at 00:47
He is talking 3 or 4 months family time. Give him some rest time. He has been through a lot. The next President ( fill in Hilary here ) will be filling at least two seats on the Court.
clemans March 31st, 2016 at 22:55
I am fine leaving it up to him, but his kids are in school in DC now, he might want to hang around and let them finish the year.
The Original Just Me April 1st, 2016 at 06:49
He has said that they will stay in Washing D.C, until their daughter is out of High School. That will be a few years anyway.
clemans April 1st, 2016 at 07:04
see, he will already be there…..and he will be bored doing nothing but relaxing……
The Original Just Me April 1st, 2016 at 07:10
I take it by your posts om Marlie’s that you are traveling. Where are you off to ?
clemans April 1st, 2016 at 08:05
just to Branson, MO, come every April for some convention…..right now there are 3 bus loads of people from OK in the breakfast room, all nice but god-blessing and yes ma’aming me crazy. But many are laughing and seemingly happy……they came to see a play or show on Moses….well, something Biblical maybe not Moses…..
The Original Just Me April 1st, 2016 at 13:34
We have been to Branson, The Lair of the Grey Panthers. Amidst the Sea of White hair and White sneakers. It is quite the place. We took my wifes parents there when her mother was first starting into Alzheimer’s. Kind of a last trip for them. I enjoyed it and have always wanted to go back but now my wife could not handle it. She needs to stay in her own home environment so as to keep her confusion and frustration to a minimum. I really got a kick out of a single guy holding up a pole with a colored flag and a whole bunch of seniors following him to their seats for the shows. Hey, it works. :+)
clemans April 1st, 2016 at 22:55
it isn’t the same since bush gutted the economy, buildings and hotels closed and left empty, they didn’t rebuild everything destroyed by the tornado either, it is better this year somewhat but it has taken yearsto recover from bush and it isn’t there yet
The Original Just Me April 1st, 2016 at 23:27
I had to rack my brain and do a little research. It was may 1, 1995 when we were there. It was two weeks after the Federal Bldg. in Oklahoma City was Bombed. We stopped and saw it on the way home. The Bush Era did change a LOT of things in the U.S. Life was Good under Clinton but the Cheney/Bush administration really messed things up. I remember it was really crowed when we were there. Just go ahead and enjoy yourself. See if I care. Have Fun. :+)
clemans April 2nd, 2016 at 04:26
thank you, I will try
clemans March 30th, 2016 at 17:03
have you heard anybody talking about Cory Booker for VP?
The Original Just Me March 31st, 2016 at 00:42
He looks interesting but he hasn’t grown enough whiskers yet. Give him time and he will be a Democratic Future Promise.
The Original Just Me March 26th, 2016 at 14:26
This is a fantastic Triumph for a soon to be “Immortalized President”.
whatthe46 March 26th, 2016 at 14:33
please stay, won’t you. and this is why the RWNJ’s hate our president, he has and can accomplish what he sets himself to do and it’s a win win for everyone, something they’ve never been able to accomplish.
StoneyCurtisll March 26th, 2016 at 18:47
Obama in 2016~!
amersham46 March 26th, 2016 at 22:30
Most presidents try to work with Congress , Obama has to work in spite of Congress
