      I wonder if not answering is an option.
      Edit: I read further in the story that it is an option, and some employees don’t trust the question. I can understand that.

          I’m not sure how they would take that. But if my employer decided to ask, I would be confrontational. Just because that’s the way I am.

    I don’t think we’re at a point where we don’t stigmatize people in the workplace because of sexual preference.
    Obviously, every place of work is unique but I’d generally keep something like that to myself.

    I worked for an insurance company back in the 1980’s and looking back I now realize I probably lost my job because my boss thought I was gay. I was single in my mid 30’s and was not involved with anyone. I wasn’t gay, just at a time in my life when I had personal issues to resolve. I knew he was asking co-workers about my personal life. He just harassed me on everything he could. In what I guess you could call my exit interview, he said he just wanted ‘family guys’ working for him. It is probably better now, but I feel for those in this situation.
