Thank you and open thread

Thank you very much for your feedback on the changes that you didn’t like :).  We spent months and more than a few shekels putting together what we thought would be welcome changes. We were I was wrong. I underestimated how important the sense of community is here and focused too much on news aggregation at the expense of the user experience.

Thank you very much for your loyalty to this site. As I mentioned before, we may move it over to liberaland.com when ready, but will maintain this look and feel. The biggest change, besides a new URL, will be that most stories will be in iframes so you can see the entire original sources.  That frees me up to put up more content quicker and, hopefully, gives you a fuller look at the stories being selected.

I’m grateful for your support.

Our community is back and the clicks will soar again. More revenue for you. Thanks

    • Alan January 15th, 2016 at 11:30

If I were solely motivated by revenue, this isn’t quite the way I’d go about it :)

      • Gina Bousquet January 15th, 2016 at 11:32

We realize that! :) Thank you so much!

      • tracey marie January 15th, 2016 at 13:20

I was not attacking you…more clicks, more ads and more whining from some about ad pop ups. remind them when they complain.

        • Budda January 16th, 2016 at 09:58

I’m just a cranky old man that hates any and all advertising. I understand the need for ads but that doesn’t mean I need not complain.

          • tracey marie January 16th, 2016 at 11:50

I have ad block programs, works pretty good.

I can’t thank you enough Alan for listening to our concerns! Happy Friday everybody!

I was wrong. I underestimated how important the sense of community is here and focused too much on news aggregation at the expense of the user experience.

Alan, I think it’s awesome how you are continuously renewing the site, and you are truly an internet pioneer – you figured out way before almost everyone else on the planet how important this channel is. However, one bit of feedback I would offer is that I miss the days when we could have respectful discussions with those offering different opinions. Once you merged with Anomaly’s site the tone became mega-hostile to conservatives, or even libs with some ‘off the reservation’ opinions. (I enjoy the occasional scrap, couldn’t care less about any attacks made on me personally – just hate to see so many folks get run outta town so quickly.)

All the conservatives we used to engage with in interesting discussions to better understand each other’s views were run off pretty quickly, and the new ones get run off as soon as they show up. So all we get on the con side these days is the occasional troll.

This used to be a rare place on the internet (or society in general) where folks could respectfully discuss issues from a variety of ideological positions. Now it’s far more of a run of the mill political web forum, seemingly meant to discuss one side of a topic, with a sprinkling of heavily insulting the rare person who ventures in with a different opinion.

Don’t know if there is any way to get that back, oddly enough there was zero moderation back then* (other than you dropping the rare, rare, rare banhammer on super ridiculous offenders), it seemed to just happen organically. Perhaps that’s the only way FOR such a thing to happen.

Anyway, I don’t participate on the site much these days, but I remain a big fan & appreciative of all your efforts, even if I’m mostly just reading the articles currently. BTW – I primarily follow the articles via Flipbook, so as long as you still pump out an RSS feed somehow, the look & feel of the site isn’t that meaningful to me. I will say that I definitely am not a fan of the Drudge look, & I think there’s probably a reason hardly any sites have such a look these days.

    Best regards,
    UC

*And this is in no way meant to be an attack on the current moderators who keep the site spam free & quickly respond to horribly offensive trolls who slip in.

    • Hirightnow January 16th, 2016 at 08:22

Sadly, the only “conservatives” who seem to show up here any more are the ones who think the terms “libturd”and “DemoRat”, and RANDOMLY capped WORDS are compelling arguments.

    • Alan January 16th, 2016 at 09:13

Without my moderators, this becomes a cesspool. But I welcome good debate and would love to see more conservatives here. So, reach out to your right-wing buddies and invite them!

      • Lyndia January 17th, 2016 at 17:26

Go to latest.com, and invite those conservatives. You will QUICKLY see how racist, backwards and stupid, they are. A few have been here, but you are correct, they were ran off because their ideas and ideology are so absurd.

      • whatthe46 January 17th, 2016 at 17:38

i have a friend who’s repuke, but she couldn’t tell you the first reason why. she skipped out on the `08 and `12 voting because she didn’t like either candidate, looks like she’ll do the same this year.

      • robert January 17th, 2016 at 20:56

so there will be no messages for caaaaaarrrrllllaaaaa ?

      • Just Axin January 17th, 2016 at 23:54

Moderators are necessary, however, your moderator believes in strong-arming dissension by listing the person’s email address with whom she disagrees. Clearly she is insecure and has control issues. Get rid of her and I guarantee you’ll see educated and respectable debate.

        • Carla Akins January 18th, 2016 at 12:10

Which Mod includes posters email addresses? I have never seen this happen unless it’s in the context of a screen shot and the subject of the article, not another reader.

          • Just Axin January 18th, 2016 at 15:29

Obewon did. And I’ve seen her do this before. I’ll be happy to supply the link. Is she a subordinate to you?

            • mea_mark January 18th, 2016 at 15:59

              Obewon isn’t a mod.

            • Carla Akins January 19th, 2016 at 09:05

Heavens, no. If you have an issue with a mod you can contact Alan if you choose but I have never seen Obewon act in any manner other than professional. There are somethings we must delete based on terms of service; like links to particular sites but Alan has always been very responsive to reader’s concerns on comments.

              • Just Axin January 19th, 2016 at 16:41

I emailed Alan the link to the incident. If Obewon is not a moderator I’d suggest banning her/him from your site. Legally or illegally done, listing a poster’s email address is despicable. Thank you for addressing my concern.

                • Carla Akins January 19th, 2016 at 20:09

Obewon is one of Alan’s mods, his primary moderator. It is not my site, it’s Alan’s and I have no ability to remove any mod. I searched for hours and was unable to find the posting you speak of. If you could provide a screenshot to verify your claim it would lend validity to your claim – but in the end, it’s Alan’s choice.

                  • mea_mark January 19th, 2016 at 20:26

Obewon is no longer a moderator.

                  • Just Axin January 19th, 2016 at 22:48

Sorry you searched for so long but it was under a different disqus account. I emailed the link to Alan. Thank you.

                • Carla Akins January 19th, 2016 at 20:16

I can only find three comments under your avatar and email address, all on this piece, all make the same claim/complaint. I can find no other comments by Just Axin, under your email on any of Alan’s sites or Freakout Nation. Do you have a secondary identification through disqus?

                  • tracey marie January 19th, 2016 at 23:23

                    I don’t believe him.

                    • Carla Akins January 21st, 2016 at 07:14

I used the IP address and found other avatars but was not able to find anything that showed the email address. Granted, I have limited time to scan someone’s entire posting history so I can review those folks that responded to him. I’m not losing any sleep over it.

                    • tracey marie January 21st, 2016 at 07:19

I would just let him fade away, sounds as if he would be a trouble making whiner and liar.

According to Forbes magazine Wallstreet and ‘ some ‘ Banks too big to fail agree with bernie sanders and are not waiting for the election results
    ——————————-
Too-Big-to Fail” list of commercial banks, shadow banks and insurance
companies whose collapse —without a taxpayer bailout—would “pose a
catastrophic risk to the United States economy.” Within 365 days, his
administration would break up the institutions on that list. “We need a
movement which tells Wall Street that when a bank is too big to fail, it
is too big to exist,” Sanders said.

As it happens, that movement is already under way. Regulators and the
stock market aren’t waiting for the election of President Sanders.
Already two of the thirty “systemically important financial
institutions” have announced voluntary break-ups, and several more are
    under consideration..
