190 Muslims Fighting For The Right To Pray At Work

Posted by | January 5, 2016 10:22 | Filed under: Religion

Imagine if Christian workers were treated like this.

…when 190 Muslims were fired from their jobs in Colorado a few weeks ago for simply wanting to take short prayer breaks, we didn’t hear a peep from these so-called advocates of religious liberty…

Well that brings us to the case of the 190 Muslim employees who were recently fired by Cargill Meat Solutions at its Fort Morgan, Colorado plant. Now just so it’s clear, Cargill is not some horrible anti-Muslim company. To the contrary, for years Cargill has accommodated the Muslim workers who wanted to take short breaks for their daily prayers. (Devout Muslims will pray five times a day.)

But still at the end of the day there are 190 Muslims, mostly United States citizens, who were fired because of their desire to practice to faith and take two to three short breaks during the day to pray…

A Cargill spokesperson responded on Twitter to me that the company respected people’s right to pray and noted that “our Muslim employees are still taking prayer breaks at work.”

From an outsider’s point of view, you would think this would be an easy to case resolve. But as former trial lawyer I can tell you that this is a typical scenario where the parties are not that far apart but still a resolution can’t be reached.

Again you tell half the story…they all want to pray at once…allah hears crowds better…they were asked to do it in small groups…No… so the plant has to shut down during prayers??? That is what happens…the assembly line stops. …now you tell me. ???

This is why I enjoy being an atheist. None of this superstitious stuff to bother with, it takes no time out of your day and nobody expects money from you.

No absolutely not. People are hired to do a job. When I hire an employee my policy is simple. Show up for work and do your job. Leave your problems, your politics and your religion at home and I have a zero tolerance policy against any kind of illegal drug use. If I were to hire a Muslim I would tell them to pray on their own time (lunch hour and 2 daily breaks) and out of view of my other employees.

Not a Republican. I am like 35% of California voters and have no party affiliation.

The company provided two rooms that could be used for prayer. The employees were asked to use them in small groups so as to not disrupt production.

Sounds like the business owners tried to accommodate them.

The workers complied with the supervisor’s request and went in smaller groups to pray. But after their shift ended, 10 of the 11 workers resigned, turning in their badges and hard hats, Cargill spokesman Michael Martin told CNN.

News of the dispute spread to other plant employees, and about 150 Somali workers missed work for three days in protest.

Based on Cargill’s attendance policy, the company fired those who failed to come to work for three consecutive days without giving any form of notice, Martin said.

They still have the right to pray. They just don’t have the right to shut down their employer’s business to do so.

To think that Liberals are desiring to protect Muslim prayer after working for decades to get Christian prayer out of US schools…

Since no one is demanding that Muslim prayers be held at public schools, to call your post ridiculous would be to give it far too much credit.

I would also remind you that it is a Christian in Kentucky who wants the “right” to refuse to do her job at all, due to her religious beliefs.

      Now that is “”Jus’speakin’th’truth””
