New Orleans To Remove Confederate Monuments

Posted by | December 17, 2015 17:30 | Filed under: Good News

Four confederate monuments will be removed.

Statues of Robert E. Lee, Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard, and Confederate president Jefferson Davis, as well as a pillar dedicated to the Battle of Liberty Place will be removed from the city, The Times-Picayune reports.

“The time surely comes when [Justice] must and will be heard,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu — who proposed the move after the Charleston, SC shootings last June — told the council. “Members of the council, that day is today. The Confederacy, you see, was on the wrong side of history and humanity.”

Councilman James Gray, who is black, denounced the statues for memorizing “murderers and rapists.”

“I am happy and impressed that we have a white mayor who understands a little bit what it means to be an African American and he’s on our side on this,” Gray said.

why is this controversial…I don’t find it controversial…about damn time…celebrate people! let lincoln and mlk and all the nameless forgotten others that a small gesture is being made to say “your death was not in vain” we are moving forward…we are progressing…jc almighty “south” hoist up the flag of surrender already…you lost over a century and a half ago….lighten your load…;)

Exactly, how can we move forward when we have to keep looking at sh*t that reminds us of “the good ‘ole days”!

But, but, but, “the good ‘ole days’ were so wonderful because at that time in our history, some people “knew” their places! /s/

you know you would think people (on both sides …oppressors and oppressed) would be dancing in the streets to be rid of it…..the analogy I think of is when I was younger I traveled a lot…and you really learn to carry only what you need and what is meaningful…and to let go of anything that will drag you down…..you think people would be singing hallelujia ptl we are free free at last….of packing this sht around….ya know? ;)

Now watch Jindal and his GOP/TP buddies in the state legislature spring into action, call a special session, and pass a bill and law stating that cities are prohibited from passing ordinances to remove the confederate flag and confederate statues from public spaces. I don’t put anything past these tools, and if they do this, they’ll call it small government in action when it’s really big, intrusive, municipal freedom-crushing government.

I thought Jindal got a job at 7-11 selling chutney flavored squishes.

Replace them with statues to Dr. John, Jelly Roll Morton, Allan Toussaint, Professor Longhair, or maybe Fats Domino. They already have a Louis Armstrong statue.

My flag boy told your flag boy
