Fundamentalist Christians Outraged By Google Evolution Doodle

Posted by | November 24, 2015 22:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Religion

Google’s image celebrating scientific discovery is outraging some Christians.

On Nov. 24, Google celebrated the 41st anniversary of the archeological discovery of “Lucy,” a fossil from 3.2 million years ago. The web giant posted an evolutionary doodle of the March of Progress, which signifies 25 million years of evolutionary development.

Not everyone was happy with the remembrance of this scientific discovery. The Friendly Atheist notes that several Christians were outraged on Twitter:

@google my web page shows google in evolution form. Gtbkm! What do you think are we are evolving to? I am changing search engines! OFFENDED

Today is boycott Google Day for me due to their evolution theme. Sorry, but something from nothing is just…dare I say…stupid.

Google no thanks for the evolution banner. Your promoting a unproven fairytale. The truth is GOD created the heavens and the earth…

I love how Google can have a “doodle” celebrating evolution, but they can’t have one celebrating the historical significance of Easter...

However, the Friendly Atheist notes that Google has celebrated Easter with doodles.

The BBC reported in 2014 that 40 percent of Lucy’s skeleton was discovered by paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson and his team in Ethiopia back in November 1974.

    Happy 3,200,041 Birthday, Lucy!

Still cool after all these years!

The brain dead are back and offended by the existence of science and Lucy.

“Today is boycott Google Day for me due to their evolution theme. Sorry, but something from nothing is just…dare I say…stupid.”

That’s exactly how I think about their gods.

    • granpa.usthai November 25th, 2015 at 00:33

quick! think of things that will keep causing them to boycott Google for it’s themes…
      uh,

upside down cross inside a pentagram

      a woman’s breast nipple

      naked butts

      …..

(got you guys some time to think.)

  6. tracey marie November 24th, 2015 at 22:40

“something from nothing” talking about evolution then claiming god created heaven and earth. Hilarious, what about the other planets?

  7. William November 24th, 2015 at 22:50

I find it astounding that so many republicans deny evolution despite the breathtaking example nature has provided especially for them.

    • Suzanne McFly November 24th, 2015 at 22:52

And what blows my mind is they claim evolution means there is no God? Why does evolution rule out a God anymore than no evolution does? WTF is the difference?

      • William November 24th, 2015 at 23:03

Exactly. I have found references to science in the Bible that were not yet explained when they were written. IE “nothing new under the sun” The fundamental properties of matter. More than 70 percent of the energy in the universe (dark energy) is not yet understood. Science does not attack religion. Why does religion feel the need to attack science? If your faith is true, then science is not a threat.

        • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:05

Because Jebus cured the blind and brought the dead back from life.

          • William November 24th, 2015 at 23:31

Those were observations written by people 2000 years ago. I am a believer in freedom from and of religion. I don’t attack atheists. In fact I enjoy their views. More precisely I enjoy living in a society where they are free to express their views I think most atheists extend the same curtesy to Christians.

            • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:35

I totally agree with you. I was just pointing out how they interpret certain passages in a literal sense as fringe followers of any religion do. Didn’t mean to come across as a jerk. I know there are a lot of sane and compassionate Christians in this country but they just get drowned out by the vocal minority of fundies.

            • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:39

For some reason my initial post didn’t went through. I didn’t mean to act in a condescending manner. I was just pointing out how they interpret certain passages in a literal sense as fringe followers of any religion do.I know there are a lot of sane and compassionate Christians in this country but they just get drowned out by the vocal minority of fundies.

              • William November 24th, 2015 at 23:55

No offense taken. I have noticed with a great deal of satisfaction that persons of all faiths can get along. I am pleased that religion can motivate people to perform acts of compassion charity and mercy. Yet I also recognize that many atheists (Bill Gates Stephen King among many) give generously to charity and are involved in the most noble of human endeavors.
I don’t interpret the Bible literally, certainly not the old testament (I’m pretty sure that stoning my neighbor to death because he didn’t observe the Sabbath is illegal)
Although I am a man of science, I’m married to a devout Seventh day Adventist, and we get along great.
I think the key is tolerance.
You are spot on about the fundies. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/558635412fc01034810c7b053a1412361fd860346fc1a3679c81dccb042cb60c.jpg

            • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 00:04

that is until you knock on my door.

              • William November 25th, 2015 at 00:13

I can help you with that. What you do is this. Get some paint and do a couple of outlines that look like chalk homicide body outlines on your front sidewalk. Then scatter some religious pamphlets and empty shotgun shells on the lawn. Crime scene tape is nice if you can get it

                • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 00:22

                  lol.

                • Budda November 25th, 2015 at 08:02

Never thought of doing that! I’ll paint the outline this afternoon.

          • granpa.usthai November 25th, 2015 at 00:27

            oh yea?

well Jesus was a Jew, not a christian.

            • Dwendt44 November 25th, 2015 at 01:09

AND he only came for the Jews. Not for the heathen, the gentiles, the Romans, etc.

        • Suzanne McFly November 24th, 2015 at 23:22

          Completely agree buddy :)

        • granpa.usthai November 25th, 2015 at 00:26

why attack gay marriages unless it’s a direct threat to your own?

why torture thousands of people to death for believing the world might not be flat?

          • William November 25th, 2015 at 00:30

Exactly. If gay marriage effects you and your relationship, then one of you is gay.
Another persons faith and other peoples relationships have no effect on my life.

        • Dwendt44 November 25th, 2015 at 01:07

Science doesn’t require magic, that’s the basic rub.

          • William November 25th, 2015 at 08:51

To a point. Electricity exists, yet nobody has ever seen an electron.

      • granpa.usthai November 25th, 2015 at 00:24

when you get up to more cipherin’ than they got digits, life really starts getting difficult for them unless there’s a $ first.

you know about the parting of the upper lip under the nostrils?

I hear it relates us to fishes

      OMG!

what if DNA links us with other species???

never thought of turtles as being a predator species, but I guess they are?

When my sister got her nursing degree, my father, a Sunday catholic (the rest of the time he was a nasty SOB), asked her to verify that men had one fewer rib than women. She thought he was joking and laughed. He didn’t know what she was laughing at. That was 35 years ago, and we still laugh about that.

    • Roctuna November 25th, 2015 at 11:09

Mitch is an evolutionary dead end

  8. Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:03

Seriously? First these idiots complain about a red cardboard cup and now they’re complaining about this? They seem to be more concerned about trivial things the average person pays no attention to and not bigger issues like child starvation in Africa. I’m willing to sign any petition that will deport these nutters.

    • William November 24th, 2015 at 23:37

Hey now, those cups are pretty offensive to Christians.

      • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:40

It’s bright communist red not Christmas red!

        • William November 24th, 2015 at 23:45

          It sure is. Friggin commies.

          • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:48

I’ve bought coffee from Starbucks in those cups a few times. The sleeves have snowflakes on them so doesn’t that make them still Christmas-like?

    • whatthe46 November 24th, 2015 at 23:59

and that’s why they vote repukes. small minded idiots.

  9. imnotgaybut20bucksis20bucks November 24th, 2015 at 23:23

It’s just a GIF for heavens sake.

  10. whatthe46 November 24th, 2015 at 23:50

wait, i wonder if these are some of the same idiots that decided to boycott google for the gay theme when the supreme court decided the gay marriage issue. looks like they couldn’t do without it and their world didn’t turn upside down.

    • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:51

By that logic they should also give up their Apple iPhones and computers since they also support gay rights.

      • whatthe46 November 24th, 2015 at 23:52

oh the stupid. makes my hair hurt.

      • William November 24th, 2015 at 23:56

        and…. I love this

        • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:58

Didn’t know that at all. That’s amazing.

          • William November 25th, 2015 at 00:40

His father, Abdulfattah Jandali, fled to America in 1954 as a political refugee. He worked hard. He drove a taxi. He fell in love with an American woman. She got pregnant. Her conservative father forced them to break up, and the baby was given up. It’s why Steve Jobs was raised by adoptive parents, and why his last name is Jobs instead of Jandali. But he was very much the son of a refugee.
One very stupid conservative bigot could have had Steve Jobs as a grandson.

            • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 00:43

that’s a very interesting fact. but, it just shows how they will go against their own best interest because of bigotry and ignorance.

              • William November 25th, 2015 at 00:45

I bet that guy feels a little bit like the Beatles first drummer.

                • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 00:56

i’m upvoting you because i know trust you’re right about that. but, i don’t know about the beatles first drummer. and rg would make fun of me because i would have to google it. i only learned about

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich from a movie. and that because Dee left the band, he was in some way responsible for AC/DC. and that’s all i got. lol

      • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 00:09

        hey! lets tell ’em. lol.

        • Boltorama November 25th, 2015 at 00:13

I’m sure they could enjoy living in an empty field with no computers, phones, and tablets for the rest of their lives.

          • whatthe46 November 25th, 2015 at 00:20

why not. i mean sex is for procreation only and it should always be vanilla right?

      • granpa.usthai November 25th, 2015 at 00:13

        and bank accounts.

    • granpa.usthai November 25th, 2015 at 00:13

      yep –
      same ones.

  11. tracey marie November 24th, 2015 at 23:51

red cups at starbucks are a war on xmas, gifs are an assault, the lists of whines is endless…always looking to play the victims

    • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:53

It isn’t just ordinary red. It’s Stalinist and Maoist red! Starbucks wants to turn America communist because Schultz is a Jew!

      • tracey marie November 24th, 2015 at 23:53

        lol.

        • Boltorama November 24th, 2015 at 23:54

Seriously a lot of people who watch Faux News believe that.

          • tracey marie November 24th, 2015 at 23:54

            I know, it is scary.

          • whatthe46 November 24th, 2015 at 23:55

            what the what?

    • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 10:40

Speaking of Xmas, several years ago, people, including my sister, complained that using that word was “taking Christ out of Christmas.” They were showing their ignorance: “Xmas is a common abbreviation of the word Christmas. Xmas, and variants such as Xtemass, originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation. The “-mas” part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass, while the “X” comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός which comes into English as “Christ”.

      • tracey marie November 25th, 2015 at 11:09

How did your sister like your facts? Happy holiday to you Larry, hope tomorrow is wonderful.

        • Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 11:23

And I wish the same for you, thanks. She responded with “I didn’t know that.” But she and her husband have moved considerably to the right since then, so I don’t bother introducing them to inconvenient facts anymore. I have a big family, and there’s room for everyone.

  12. granpa.usthai November 25th, 2015 at 00:10

some of the hate filled ones go chimp crazed bananas when you refer to eve as Ms. Lucy.

    The derp is too strong.

  15. bpollen November 25th, 2015 at 04:55

“,,,but they can’t have one celebrating the historical significance of Easter…”

You mean a spring equinox celebration or a fertility rite? Both of those have a much longer history than Christianity has had since it tried to co-opt the pagan celebrations.

    • Gina Bousquet November 25th, 2015 at 12:13

I love the irony in this, the catholic church using all previous European religions rites to build its calendar

      • bpollen November 25th, 2015 at 15:50

And that is exactly what they did. And a lot of Christians deny like career criminals that those holidays were ever pagan.

  16. Chris November 25th, 2015 at 07:26

I loved this tweet: Today is boycott Google Day for me due to their evolution theme. Sorry, but something from nothing is just…dare I say…stupid.”
But “man from the dust in the ground”? Hey, now you’re on to something.

    • Foundryman November 25th, 2015 at 12:21

      And ‘woman from a rib’….

  17. Larry Schmitt November 25th, 2015 at 10:35

“Google no thanks for the evolution banner. Your promoting a unproven fairytale.” Science isn’t the only subject their education is lacking in.

    • alpacadaddy November 25th, 2015 at 13:38

My thoughts exactly! (Gee, project much?)

  18. Foundryman November 25th, 2015 at 12:20

I love how they say “evolved from a monkey”…I guess the fact that Lucy and all the other muti-celled life forms originally came from a single cell amoeba floating in the ocean hasn’t sunk in yet in their little fundie minds.
