Iowa Evangelicals: Trump’s Attack On Carson’s Faith Will Fail
Donald Trump denies he was trying to plant seeds of doubt among evangelicals when he said he didn’t “know about” Carson’s religion while declaring himself mainstream.
“It will fail miserably,” said Mike Demastus, a pastor at Fort Des Moines Church of Christ. “For Donald Trump, as a name-only Presbyterian, to be criticizing somebody else for their faith statements is laughable. This is a guy who can’t even quote a Bible scripture to someone.”
Several influential Christian conservative leaders in Iowa, even those who publicly back GOP candidates other than Carson, came to the defense of the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Monday.
Trump touched off the controversy when he said at a campaign rally in Florida on Saturday: “I love Iowa. And, look, I don’t have to say it, I’m Presbyterian. … Boy, that’s down the middle of the road, folks, in all fairness. I mean, Seventh-day Adventist, I don’t know about. I just don’t know about.”

Religion should not even enter into the discussion but it’s important to the right because they worry about which bogus (IMO) religious world view will influence their candidate.

Wait till the fundamentalists discover that Seventh Day Adventists believe everybody but Seventh Day Adventists are going to hell for recognizing the Sabbath on Sunday rather than Saturday. Should be interesting.

The same goobers who are falling for Carson fell for Reagan and he was an occultist!!
Remember all the tarot card readers and psychics and horoscope writers and whatnot that he had traipsing through the White House while he was there? It was the reason that there were constant commercials for psychic hot-lines were on TV all through the 80s but never before or since.
Reagan was even caught on a hot mic making fun of the fundies who were wanting face time with him and they STILL voted for him and now worship him.
Religion is the worst thing ever for chumming up votes. Didn’t they learn their lesson with the tea baggers?

I think we need to leave religion out of this equation. If we, as liberals are so quick (and rightly so) to defend Muslims from the onslaught of ignorant Islamaphobes then we should also defend Dr. Carson from the misinformation and attacks by those we want to use religion as an issue.
I don’t like Dr. Carson’s politics, and I don’t think he’s qualified to be President, but not because of his religion.
If anyone’s interested, Adventists are anti war, pro environment and champions of charitable causes.
They are also quite walk the walk.

i really don’t care what his religion is. it’s his wanting to enforce his beliefs on everyone else that i have a problem with. it’s his wanting to run this country on his beliefs. he can believe in what ever he wants, just don’t push it on others by way of the white house. and i find this thing to be a hypocrite to the umph degree. i don’t see muslims trying to enforce their religion on christians or otherwise.

I think all religions are basically batshit-insane. Well, except for Scientology, which is super-mega-ultra-friggin-batshit-insane.

Don’t 7th day adventists think that all other religious people are going to hell? Carson has been standing by every tenet of his faith and still the evangenitals would vote for him? Hell even Romney’s faith doesn’t push them into hell like Carson’s does. WTF is wrong with them?

As a resident of Iowa, let me inform the rest of the country that despite the media BS, Iowa ISN’T A Fundie Deutschland that’s wall-to-wall with bible-bangers. The Bob Vander Plaats crowd is a small but VERY noisy minority here. They are looked on the same way people of Kansas look at the Fred Phelps cult.
