Weiner On Abedin: ‘Every T Was Crossed And Every I Was Dotted’

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner stopped by my radio show Monday night. I asked him about the attempt by the right to go after his wife, Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, claiming paperwork wasn’t properly done when she had dual jobs. Weiner also said being in Congress today is “not a great job.” Among other topics: the mistakes he made in his personal life and a look at the candidates running for president.

COLMES: Now when you hear people going after Huma, your wife, I can only imagine it’s got to drive you crazy. I mean I’ve heard, you know she’s a Muslim, she’s with the Muslim Brotherhood, she’s not really an American. I mean, it drives me crazy and I don’t even know your wife.

WEINER: I’m reluctant to talk about it too much to fuel it. But I can say this, she’s been in government for 15 years, she’s made enormous sacrifices. She’s worked in the First Lady’s Office, she’s worked in the United States Senate, she worked in the State Department as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. Anyone who has worked with her knows that she is an honorable, hard working person. I have never seen a staffer attacked like this in all my years of politics and she doesn’t deserve it and hopefully it won’t be rewarded.

COLMES: You’ve got this group called Judicial Watch claiming a form wasn’t signed, but I think they’ve backed off that right?

WEINER: It’s not uncommon, again I don’t want to get too deep in the weeds here, but it’s not uncommon for people who work in government agencies not to give up their full-time job or outside jobs so we can get the experience that they have. And Huma was one of those there were dozens of them in the State Department, hundreds of them in the government. Every T was crossed and every I was dotted…

On his personal life:

WEINER: Look, I’ve paid a price certainly for the mistakes that I made, and I did embarrassing things that everybody knows about, and in politics it’s hard to have embarrassing things that people know about without them coming back to haunt you. If my name was Colmes, and not Weiner, would things have gone a different way? Could be. Here’s the thing and perhaps it’s a cliché, I have a 3 1/2 year old son, it’s really hard to say, oh my God, I didn’t drink and run over anyone with my car, thank God nobody got seriously hurt, except it obviously did damage to my marriage and I dishonored my wife, but I can’t say I’m an unlucky person.
