David Hirsch, a.k.a. Dave "Doctor" Gonzo*, is a renegade record producer, video producer, writer, reformed corporate shill, and still-registered lobbyist for non-one-percenter performing artists and musicians. He lives in a heavily fortified compound in one of Manhattan's less trendy neighborhoods.

* Hirsch is the third person to use the pseudonym, a not-so-veiled tribute to journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson, with the permission of his predecessors Gene Gaudette of American Politics Journal (currently webmaster and chief bottlewasher at Liberaland) and Stephen Meese at Smashmouth Politics.

The first pope from Latin America, Francis has often criticized unbridled capitalism in the two years of his papacy.

On Friday, he had a high-powered audience at the United Nations,
which is celebrating its 70th anniversary. This year’s General Assembly
is believed to have attracted the highest number of leaders in U.N.
    history.

    The pontiff urged
government leaders to ensure their people enjoy the minimum material
needs. “In practical terms, this absolute minimum has three names:
lodging, labor and land,” Francis said to applause.

Pretty sick when a hedge fund manager takes over a pharmaceutical company, you just know you will have to pay an arm and leg literally to obtain a life saving drug.

If you listen, a drug to stop herpes (I think, can’t remember for sure) has 84 pill for the treatment to cure you and each pill is $1,000. How is that legal? There needs to be some oversight.

no fk’n way! well, again, i’m not the conspiracy theorist type, but, i think with the trillons of dollars that have been afforded to the cause to cure most “uncurable” diseases, seems to me would have been found by now. but, there’s no money to made in cures.

Exactly, just like there is no money in times of peace.

Hepatitis C, which is even worse than the herp.

” About 343,000 deaths due to liver cancer from hepatitis C occurred in 2013, up from 198,000 in 1990. An additional 358,000 in 2013 occurred due to cirrhosis.”

That is a lot of people dying, and that is not counting the ones who don’t die but are very sick for a very long time.

It is sick they can make a person go through so much pain and possible even die just because they didn’t have enough money. How are these types of people in the health profession?

              • CandideThirtythree September 27th, 2015 at 14:52

It is sickening and just one more reason that we need universal healthcare. They would be forced to negotiate if the only entity that was purchasing from them was the one that treated everyone.
