Numbers Are In: 17.6 Million Now Insured Because Of Obamacare

Posted by | September 22, 2015 20:00 | Filed under: Good News Politics

Obamacare has insured 17.6 million people who previously did not have health insurance according to a new government report.

The number of uninsured has decreased because of changes in the law that allowed young people to stay on their parents’ health plans for longer, the expansion of Medicaid in 29 states and the District of Columbia, and the sale of subsidized health insurance to individuals, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell said in a speech.

The previous estimate, which is calculated by a division of HHS, was issued in March.

More rightwing fear mongering and lies bite the dust!

No, it won’t. They will simply deny the facts or call them government based lies. In the RW world, no lie ever dies, zombie like, they keep coming back to life. “Climate change hoax”, “Kenyan”, “Benghazi”, “IRS”, “Death panels”, “Voter fraud” and an endless list of utter nonsense they will repeat over and over again.

Oh no, the horror of helping the average American the right will not be pleased!

Yes, it’s great that more people have coverage and many horrible insurance practices were eliminated. But lets not get caught up in all the hype here. How is this going to affect the middle class? Likely with higher taxes come April 2016. And what is going to be the effect of the Employer Mandate come 2016? Many doctors are not accepting Medicare, Medicaid, and now certain lower level plans offered through the exchanges. So yay! you have insurance, but no doctor within 50 miles or more will see you if you need a specialist, or no ER or urgent care doc will accept your insurance. A whole lot of good that does you.

Thanks for the first link on Medicare patients, sheds more light on the issue then anecdotal accounts by docs.

First off, what does April 2016 have to do with higher taxes ? That is a Tax reporting period and NOT a tax INCREASE period. The Affordable care Act has NOTHING to do with Medicare OR Medicaid. The employer mandate has already been in effect for some time now. What is going to happen to it in 2016. You need to educate yourself.

      • bahlers September 23rd, 2015 at 06:05

This is the time that Joe and Joan Taxpayer will pay taxes, am I right? So they will then have to pay higher taxes if they are above the 400% of fed poverty line. The employer mandate penalty does not kick in until 2016, hence the reason I stated 2016. The ACA has EVERYTHING to do with Medicare AND Medicaid. Perhaps you missed the recent SCOTUS ruling on the ACA, which specifically dealt with state exchanges for Medicaid patients.

This may came as a surprise to you…but doctors have rejected medicare and medicaid patients for years.. not just after ACA …Never been to an ER I see.

      • bahlers September 23rd, 2015 at 06:00

I happen to work in an ER. Except for Keiser like hospitals, docs are self employed contractors, and have a separate bill for patients aside from the hospital bill. So if you see a PA, NP, or MD/DO you will receive a separate bill for services rendered then your bill from the hospital, which will include and medication given, supplies used, or anything that the hospital provides. It appears that from a link by Red Mann below, that I was mistaken in reference to Medicare, but what I have said still applies to policies acquired through the exchanges and to Medicaid, or a state’s version of Medicaid. You will be hard pressed to find a family Doc that accepts Medicaid or any other affordable plan offered through the exchanges, and even more so for a specialist. Many orthopedic clinics will simply not see these types of patients due to little to no reimbursement. And the ACA is by all means directly responsible for this problem. You cannot flood a market that is already stretched thin enough as it is for providers. By 2025 there will be a shortage of close to 150k doctors, half in primary and half in specialty care. In 2008 there was a shortage of about 8,000 all in primary care. So how exactly is the ACA not responsible for this problem? It certainly didn’t create it, but it by golly did nothing to prevent it.

They don’t turn you away…do they??? As you imply…true gopee …master of the half truth

          • bahlers September 23rd, 2015 at 06:26

Under EMTALA, no ER can refuse to see a patient. This law has nothing to do with bill collection and which insurance a patient may have.

            • rg9rts September 23rd, 2015 at 06:34

Then say so …not imply that you won’t be seen…That is a half truth. and YOU know it..

            • Obewon September 23rd, 2015 at 20:30

Good luck trying to get an ER to do cancer TREATMENT, chemo, or anything else but a Hi!Bye!Payup now! You didn’t pay? GTFO!

        • whatthe46 September 23rd, 2015 at 20:48

you happen to work in an ER? as what the janitor?

          • bahlers February 7th, 2016 at 14:32

If I were to work as a janitor (which I have part time for extra cash) I would be the most educated one at the hospital (and I’m not by the way).

Every single argument of the critics has been wrong.

It was passed in the middle of the night they say. The Senate vote was at 7am.

No one will sign up, they warned. People did sign up.

Those who signed up will not pay their premiums. Premiums were paid at the same rate as the general public not using the ACA.

Those who did sign up, allegedly did so only to avoid the penalty. For most people, the penalty is a fraction of the annual policy premium. Not even the most misinformed FOX viewer could possibly think that a penalty of $1.00 will “force” you to buy something costing $10. Or perhaps I am overestimating the intellect of FOX viewers.

So pardon us if we take your criticisms with the numerous grains of salt that were necessary ever since debate on this legislation started. It reminds me of a scene from the Holy Grail Monty Python movie. Two knights are engaged in a sword fight. One knight ends up with both arms and both legs cut off. He still wants to fight, threatening to bite the leg of his adversary.

Perfect metaphor for the ACA critics. Every single one of the opposing arguments predicting dire catastrophe had its arms and legs cut off as they were demonstrated to be utter hogwash. Yet the critics persist with futile attempts to bite the leg of the ACA.

Just like with the Congressional vote on the war in Iraq, liberals were right.

      Again…

And the gopee can kiss off 17.6 M votes ….imagine how large the number if the red states and gone along with the program

    • Obewon September 23rd, 2015 at 09:19

31 M+ are now covered by HC.gov and the state exchanges today! While ‘the ACA reduces federal deficits by $1.5 T+’-CBO! In NY HC premiums dropped from $1,000+ per month to $308 per month before any subsidies. Via Clinton42’s motor-voter law ACA enrollees must be asked: ‘Are you registered to vote? Would you like me to register you to vote now?’ Repubs won’t ever recover from the Obama Admins unanimous successes. http://acasignups.net/

  6. Robert Smithson September 23rd, 2015 at 07:53

Hey, has anyone saved $2500.00 on their premiums per year? I certainly haven’t.
