The books in question, which are intended for children, feature characters such as Lazy Lucy, an African girl, and Nieko the Hunting Girl, who is Native American and lives in a cave. The books also refer to Christopher Columbus’ “discovery” of America, which is historically inaccurate.
And as if that isn’t bad enough, in a book entitled Kenya, the residents of the African nation are said to be:

They’ll do well with the “Christian” home schooling crowd.

This is what one of the school board members had to say when another board member suggested the publisher owed them a refund and an apology: “Another board member, Don Samuels, said the publisher should be forgiven, because the families of the nine African-American churchgoers slain by accused killer and white supremacist Dylan Roof forgave him.” Wow. Just, wow.

I’ve had co-workers tell me I should be proud of the stereotypical hunter, tracker, warrior, image associated with NA’s…I’ve replied “…maybe, but I have a PhD in physics, why don’t you see that…???”
Larry Schmitt September 10th, 2015 at 18:00
Because they don’t see you as an individual.

Many White people just don’t get it…. and when I turn the tables on them like painting all White’s as gun crazed bible thumpers, or slave owners, land grabbing thieves, homocidal maniacs hell bent on spreading disease, famine, pestilence, and poverty, so they can have $2 gas, Iphones, or buy cheap Chinese slave made crap from the mall…they get angry.

Had to look it up. I guess racial stereotypes depend on where you are. Those comics would never fly in the US. I also didn’t know Mexico used the “dollar sign.” I guess there it’s the Peso Sign.

And Mexico had organ grinders and organ grinder monkeys in the tourist traps much later than the US did. It’s a real live monkey in a little red velvet suit; no racial allusions at all. (They don’t have nearly as much anti-black racism as the US did, never having had nearly the forcible importation that we had. Mexico banned slavery decades earlier than the US.)
There were children’s books about monkeys as people. My niece grew up on Curious George and it’s the same thing. Get rid of the hundreds of years of racist art and crap, and monkeys are cute little critters when they’re not flinging poo….

So this Bulgarian says to me. ‘You’re a Scotsman so what do youy say when someone is tight-fisted?” ”We say they are from Aberdeen or we used to. And so he asks, ‘What do they say in Aberdeen?” I don’t know’ I say. ‘What do say in Bulgaria?’ We say they are from J…(I forget a city in Bulgaria). ‘And what do they say there? I ask. They say you are from Scotland.”

THAT generation, yes. The young and the feckless, however, remain. (Mind, if they could get fecked a time or two they might be able to get out of bed and bedsheets…)

Feckin’ A right!
Warman1138 September 10th, 2015 at 21:16
Stereotypes, like in those textbooks are an insidious form of racism, sneaking ignorance to make dull minds and deaden empathy. The publisher doesn’t deserve the business they’re in.

Then they wonder why America has a hard time coming together as a nation!
