173,000 Jobs; Unemployment Rate 5.1%
More jobs were expected, but the unemployment rate fell to 5.1%.
In addition to the new jobs, the unemployment rate fell to 5.1 percent. A separate measure that includes those who have stopped looking for work or are working part time for economic reasons edged lower to 10.3 percent. The labor force participation rate remained mired near its lowest level since the late 1970s at 62.6 percent.
The U.S. was expected to create 220,000 jobs in August, with the unemployment rate falling to 5.2 percent. Equity indexes initially dropped lower, while bond yields moved higher.

The Obama / Dem $500 B jobs stimulus is the gift that keeps delivering 14 M+ private Jobs created, lowering unemployment to 5.1% while reversing GWB’s Great Recession record low everything. Mitt’s Romney recovery promised higher 6% unemployment.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/speakerpelosi/13630053153/in/photostream/ <-BLS March 2014. As of 3/2015, 12 M+ Private Obama Jobs created. Vs Q4-08 $12.7 T GDP shrinking -9% APR vs 2014 U.S. record $17.5 T GDP growing +3% APR = +$5 T GDP!

rg9rts September 4th, 2015 at 10:52
Then they would want all the credit
The Original Just Me September 4th, 2015 at 11:34
Great Idea, let’s give them all of the Credit that the U.S. OWES. Most of it is their fault anyway.
The Original Just Me September 4th, 2015 at 11:32
Even thinking the Republicans would help out would be putting us in Fairyland.
Tommie September 4th, 2015 at 10:19
Great news but the Republicans will come up with “talking points” on why this is a false number!

I hear Trump saying “I am all about jobs” and then I read how the Culinary Union at his Trump Casino Las Vegas are asking him “If you want to make America great again, you could start here.
William September 4th, 2015 at 10:38
Their point will be “So many Americans have given up looking for work”
Tommie September 4th, 2015 at 10:53
Yes, that is one of the points Mr. Hannity will bring up!
William September 4th, 2015 at 10:58
He’s still on the air?
Why is there no penalty for outright lying on right wing-wacko media?https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0228dfc1dfa36f88ea4cee078bd22104351ffa8ca32b28037083e278601a5cd4.jpg
Tommie September 4th, 2015 at 11:24
Because that is one of the qualifications for the job!
The Original Just Me September 4th, 2015 at 11:29
So many just gave up in despair . Right, like nobody has to eat.
William September 4th, 2015 at 10:37
Matt Rumsby..er..Rugby..um Rodney *sigh*. You know? The dancing horse guy said that if elected he would have unemployment below 7 percent by 2017.

Michelle Bachmann said she’d have gas at $2 a gallon also!
(last week gas in SC was $1.849 for regular
just checked with map quest -now at $1.769)
blame that one on OBAMA too!
poor little oil industry is taking a real beating.
just for the record – if Obama doesn’t turn out to be a cyber hoax – and I get within range, I’m gonna kiss him! (I’m a man of my word)
low fuel cost is a going to devastate this country! -ain’t figured out how, but I’m a working on it.

Directions from the Block Party Propaganda Minister.
tracey marie September 4th, 2015 at 11:24
The Primary reason the participation rate rose is because more people retired from 2009 till now.
The Original Just Me September 4th, 2015 at 11:26
They should make it 173.001 by adding One Kentucky County Clerk.
granpa.usthai September 4th, 2015 at 14:56
BLAME IT ON OBAMA!
it’s all his fault!
but, you can send this message to the White House:
just because this ups my rating from a low 105% to a mid 109% don’t mean I’ve forgotten the Texas BBQ House incident.
no sir re bub! – It’s still factored in there, the POTUS has still got a long ways to go before he tops at a high 110% by my figuring!!!
amongoose September 4th, 2015 at 16:02
Problem is that there have to be over 200k new jobs just to keep up with those entering the workforce to break even..
tracey marie September 4th, 2015 at 16:46
wahhhhhh! bush crashed it and President Obama fixed it.
Obewon September 4th, 2015 at 21:14
‘GM is alive, Bin Laden and the KeystoneXL pipeline are dead. Gas is at or below $2/gal.’ Unemployment keeps crashing right on past GOP’s last seasons losers.
tracey marie September 4th, 2015 at 22:02
And the right walks around with dirty diapers.
StoneyCurtisll September 4th, 2015 at 19:08
8 years ago we were losing 800,000 jobs a month…
And you are complaining about a 175,000 increase in jobs a single month..??
And an unemployment rate of only 5.1% ???
One more percentage point lower than 5.0. and it is consider full employment.
And the employers freak out because the workers have the ability to demand higher wages because they have the option to seek other employment, at a job willing to pay a better wage.
amongoose September 4th, 2015 at 20:19
Labor participation rate is at a thirty year low. Those who have dropped out of the labor force, or have exhausted unemployment benefits are not counted as unemployed.
We have brought in (legally only) almost as many people as jobs have been created according to the BLS.
The numbers have been cooked for a long time.
StoneyCurtisll September 4th, 2015 at 22:18
Bullshit…
Stop with the sore loser persona..
Feel good about yourself and the nation for a change..
Be happy things are going well…
And stop playing the role the dower widow that has lost all hope..
Try to rise above your lament of not always getting what you wish for.
It’s only yourself that can make yourself feel better about yourself. (stop whining)

and how many of those who dropped out of the work force, did so because thanks to the ACA, they no longer have to worry about maintaining a job to have affordable health insurance and are free to take their shot in this recovering economy by incurring the risk of starting their own business?
it became clear early in the administration of this President that no matter what good news the administration delivers, the critics will immediately spin it as negative and parse the details to detract from the accomplishment in a manner they would never imagine, if the President were someone they voted for.
most obvious example is the bin Laden mission. President Obama gives a 10 minute speech in the White House informing the nation of the successful mission.
President George W. Bush swoops onto an aircraft carrier decked out in a spiffy flight suit with a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner displayed in the background.
Only President Obama is accused of “taking too much credit”.
So call me cynical, but I will take your criticism of this positive economic news with numerous grains of salt. Non partisan objective analysis does not appear to be a skill possessed by the majority of Mr. Obama’s critics.

Seems we disagree a bit. You think the economy is humming along, I think they are problems. And the roots of the decline are not just recent.
There are a few reputable sources that disagree with you. Small business creation is at a 20 to 30 year low depending on the source.

We are importing more people than we are creating jobs, how is that supposed to work? We have millions of college educated waitresses and waiters, why not employ Americans first? That would be my choice instead of having American workers train their replacements, lower paid H1b visa workers as Disney, and a California power company have recently done.

And those jobs created seem to be disproportionately low wage.
Recovery Has Created Far More Low-Wage Jobs Than Better-Paid Ones

Funny thing about economics..
You can put five economist in a room and all five of then will give you a different opinion on the how or the why or what is actually going on, much less predict the future.
If I wanted to waste my time, I could cite as many sources that would contradict your links…
This could go on Ad nauseam..
StoneyCurtisll September 5th, 2015 at 11:31
Look amigo…
I dig your Donald Sutherland Kelly’s hero’s avatar, thats cool…(woof woof)
But I have no interest in debating economic theory or how well/bad the US economy is at this point in time.
