Mass Baptism Before School Football Game

A Georgia school district is investigating why a baptism took place before a football game.

“We had the privilege of baptizing a bunch of football players and a coach on the field of Villa Rica High School! We did this right before practice! Take a look and see how God is STILL in our schools!” the caption of the video read on YouTube before it was removed, according to 11 Alive.

Once the Carroll County School system was made aware of the video, however, they launched an investigation, according to a statement cited by 11 Alive.

“The Carroll County School System was made aware of a situation that took place at Villa Rica High School prior to football practice on Aug. 17. The district is currently looking into the specifics of this situation and will take appropriate steps to ensure all state and federal laws are followed,” noted school district officials in the statement.

“I can’t remember another case like this. … It’s really misusing the authority of the coach to promote his personal religious agenda,” Annie Laurie Gaylor of the Freedom From Religion Foundation told 11 Alive.

CBS This Morning did a great piece on this this morning. It’s really disturbing how the radical Christian right is trying to destroy our freedom in this country. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/mass-baptism-georgia-public-high-school-football-field-brews-controversy/

Don’t worry he will go to gofundme for help!

What exactly is the point of dunking someone under water, or sprinkling water on an infants head?…
    I was raised a baptist, I should know this…
But as an adult it makes no sense.

I was raised in the Catholic church and here’s how their baptisms work; the pedophile “blesses” the tap water, puts on a dress and mumbles some mumbo jumbo over the baby before pouring the “holy” water on the babies head – taking special care if it was a boy baby.

Looks like water boarding to me…
Hey if your not with the program, we will dunk you, and not let you back up…
If you are with the team and Jesus, nohting to worry about, just leave it to us..
    This is bizarre behavior..

Dick Cheney would be so proud teaching these kids how to endure torture!

This is a disgrace, can’t the school afford showers, do they have to bathe in public?

Fisher DeBerry did everything but baptize the players when he was coach at Air Force Academy in the 80’s and 90’s.

Religious activists have been getting away with this nonsense for a long time. Now that we are watching a bit closer, they are offended that some of us object.

      • Larry Schmitt September 3rd, 2015 at 21:09

        “We’re being persecuted because we’re Christians” claim in 3, 2, 1…

if it works and they win the state championship, can a community force their local NFL to do the same?

  9. Mike September 3rd, 2015 at 19:35

The big questions should be…were the parents aware of this and did they consent…???
In some religions being baptized twice is a sin and the kids might not know it.

    It’s a school, it’s a football field. It is NOT a church!

    • Roctuna September 3rd, 2015 at 20:21

You speaketh blasphemy south of the Mason-Dixon Line. All one in the same.

    • Larry Schmitt September 3rd, 2015 at 21:10

But since gawd is everywhere, everywhere is a church.

it’s time to send trump there to say “you’re fired!”

  12. Tommie September 3rd, 2015 at 22:52

The parents of these kids who have different faiths will not be overjoyed at this!

damn, the usa first embarrasses itself by fking up the mid east and now it is royally destroying any vestige of what some nice people call xianity. How can anyone/thing find solace in a religion steeped in hatred, intolerance, and, worst of all, an absolute ignorance as to the so called teachings of its namesake?????

    Bet they still lost

Saw a video about it on HLN, and a young lady saying that it’s not a big deal, it was voluntary and a way to show support for the team. And therein lies one of the major problems, because if doing this shows support for your team, then not doing can be construed as you don’t support your team. If the coach assisted in organizing or promoting this in any way, he needs to be fired. He is in a position of power and authority, and his invitations or suggestions carry much influence.

The adherents of Christian Dominionism cramming their religious beliefs down the throats of everyone, whether legal or not. If no one stops them it will just go further until the country is a theocratic state in the mold of Iran or Saudi Arabia.
