The Denver City Council has blocked–at least temporarily–the addition of a Chick-Fil-A restaurant at Denver International Airport because of the company’s well-known stance on the issue of same-sex marriage and LGBT equality.

Councilman Paul Lopez called opposition to the chain being allowed to operate at the airport:

It might also have something to do with Chik-Fil_A’s no Sunday policy

    • tracey marie August 24th, 2015 at 17:20

and there illegal discrimination, no GLBT work for them, religous edicts and sunday being closed.

  2. Mike August 24th, 2015 at 17:25

Kinda silly…the franchises are individually owned and operated.
I don’t think most or even many Chik-Fil-A’s are homophobic… the corporate owner seems to be the exception.

    • tracey marie August 24th, 2015 at 17:32

The franchises must adhere to corporate demands of “godly” discrimination and hate and never open on Sundays.

      • ohpaleasegivemeabreak August 24th, 2015 at 17:43

True that – you are either as extreme as the founders or you can FORGET getting a franchise.

That place is wing nut central.

      • Mike August 24th, 2015 at 17:57

My favorite Kosher deli is closed on Saturdays…I never thought about boycotting them…should I???

        • tracey marie August 24th, 2015 at 18:10

Do they discriminate vocally against people?

          • Mike August 24th, 2015 at 19:43

Not that I know of, unless you consider refusing to serve mayo on a roast beef sandwich discrimination…I don’t, because I knew before I walked in there the business had every right to observe their Sabbath and food laws as they see fit.

My objection to painting everyone with that broad brush is my personal belief it makes me just like them…Does every franchise owner discriminate vocally against people…???…Doesn’t every franchise have rules you must agree to…???

While the statements from the owner of the corporation are indefensible, they could not be considered criminal by any stretch of the imagination and I fail to see how they could be labeled discriminatory…He simply doesn’t agree with gay marriage, so what…that just makes him a bigot. Do you have an example of where they acted upon that and denied service or a job to anyone …???
It would change my mind if you did.

You are free to do as you please without any judgement from me, it would be hypocritical to do so…I merely posted my opinion and respect your right to disagree.

            • tracey marie August 24th, 2015 at 20:17

When you buy into a known theocratic hate based franchise, you get the reputation as well.

            • CandideThirtythree August 25th, 2015 at 02:21

The corporation gave money to the group of fundies that went to Africa to convince governments to KILL gays!

This is NOT just bad mouthing gay people, this is paying to have them killed in other countries because we won’t let them do it here!

All of those franchise owners paid into that fund and none of them demanded that it stop.

              • Mike August 25th, 2015 at 06:25

Now that’s something I didn’t know and it certainly matters…I might have to adjust my position after hearing that.
                Thanks for the info.

Expressing an opinion is not discrimination, under the law. It’s Constitutionally protected speech, for which the government CANNOT punish them. They have broken no laws.

            • Robert Kennedy August 25th, 2015 at 17:35

You have a constitutional right to free speech, but can be arrested and convicted for yelling “FIRE” in a crowded theater. If your free speech is hate speech you certainly can be prevented from exercising it as a business decision, but cannot be forbidden from showing your ignorance.

              • illinoisboy1977 August 26th, 2015 at 10:11

Actually, freedom of speech DOES apply to businesses. They can say whatever they want, as long as it’s not a direct threat or blatant incitement and the government can’t sanction them for it. The city is in violation of the Constitution, in this case. Hate speech is protected speech.

          If you have to ask……………………..

    • The Original Just Me August 24th, 2015 at 19:11

Come on, come all, if you are going to have a franchise with this company, then you have to accept their deals.

      • Mike August 24th, 2015 at 19:43

And other franchises don’t require you to do the same…???

        • The Original Just Me August 24th, 2015 at 19:53

Yup, they do. did Ya notice how the other businesses that came out on Religious subjects and ACA are doing . Like Olive Garden and Red Robin.

          • Mike August 24th, 2015 at 20:00

I admit I don’t know any thing about that stuff. I don’t eat fast food or go to any of the places named, so I don’t pat a lot of attention to their policies.

            • The Original Just Me August 25th, 2015 at 07:52

We eat out very seldom. It is very difficult to find a restaurant that doesn’t serve the Thaw it and Serve it Food anymore. We have many restaurants in our area but only one prepares the raw food on site. That one is almost impossible to get into. It is very small and is only open for breakfast and lunch.

              • Mike August 25th, 2015 at 11:56

Just the opposite where I am…a Fl beach and resort community, not a chain or fast food joint for miles, we don’t even have a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks on the island.

                • The Original Just Me August 25th, 2015 at 12:59

That sounds peaceful. Don’t let the word out or you will have a Wally World there tomorrow.

        • Dwendt44 August 25th, 2015 at 00:10

Most franchises don’t have such backassward requirements. For most of them, YOU have to be open 7 days a week, 364 days a year.

    • ohpaleasegivemeabreak August 25th, 2015 at 07:32

If you want a Chik Fil A franchise it is a REQUIREMENT to be a bigoted, homophobic, wimmen is stupid and must be controlled at all costs phony christian.

If you are not extreme enough, no amount of money is big enough to buy one of their HOLY PURE franchises.

You MUST be an EXTREMIST of the highest order to ‘qualify’.

      • Mike August 25th, 2015 at 11:58

Never knew that…I’ll take your word for it.

  3. Hirightnow August 24th, 2015 at 17:33

If I had the final say, I’d claim a religious exemption….because I’ll be damned if I do business with them.

  6. amersham46 August 24th, 2015 at 19:19

But the is a rest area ( State Rte 83 ) near Garden City Kansas that would welcome you

  7. Tommie August 24th, 2015 at 22:33

Of course, the airport is about making money and need no distraction from getting that green!

  8. CandideThirtythree August 25th, 2015 at 02:15

AND they are closed on Sundays so that would limit air traveler’s options for a place to grab a bite before getting back on a plane on Sunday. They need all the places open to speed up turnaround time.

I am so tickled about the things I read about my new home state, except that mustard colored river of course.

Colorado gets better every day….first legal pot then kicking Chick fil A out

  10. ohpaleasegivemeabreak August 25th, 2015 at 07:29

AND the bigots are FREAKING out over it – FREAKING out over that DREADFULLY bad chicken joint.

  11. illinoisboy1977 August 25th, 2015 at 10:36

Unless Chick-Fil-A has actually broken the law, the city council has no legal authority to deny their application. The government CANNOT deny access to the marketplace based on a business owner’s religious beliefs. The 1st Amendment guarantees a business owner’s right to express his religious opinion, without governmental interference or chastisement. I can see Chick-Fil-A winning a lawsuit, if this goes to court and the city has to explain it’s rationale to a judge.

    • tracey marie August 25th, 2015 at 15:23

when they apply that religous discrimination towards clients and hiring they sure can be excluded. They also are closed on sunday, mandatory 7 days opertion, period.

      • illinoisboy1977 August 26th, 2015 at 10:13

Speaking in disagreement is not discrimination. They haven’t refused service to anyone. The city didn’t say they were refusing the contract because the business is closed on Sunday. They said they’re refusing the contract, based on the owner’s previous statements against same sex marriage. That is unconstitutional.

        • tracey marie August 26th, 2015 at 15:16

Nope, discrimination is illegal. Unless you are involved with your church you may not own a franchise.

          • illinoisboy1977 August 28th, 2015 at 10:19

They didn’t discriminate against anyone. The owner just expressed an opinion, which is protected by the 1st Amendment. Please, show me that law about not being allowed to own a franchise.

            • tracey marie August 28th, 2015 at 17:27

I qouted from theiur franchise page, shut up now boy

              • illinoisboy1977 August 29th, 2015 at 09:04

So, what part of their behavior has denied service to anyone, based on sexual orientation, race or gender?

  12. tracey marie August 25th, 2015 at 16:14

    To own a chick fil a franchise…

must be involved in your local christian church

    must be married

must attend a christian marriage weekend retreat

must promote christian beliefs(per the cathey family rules and beliefs)

must participate in christiangroup prayer during training and meeting

can and will lose your franchise if you do something “unchristian” and hurt your family…divorce, abortion or whatever the cathey family says is hurtful to the family

    .
