Chomsky: Sanders Will Push Dems To The Left

Posted by | August 12, 2015 06:00 | Filed under: Politics

Raw Story quotes an email from renowned linguist and political polemicist Noam Chomsky to Alternet’s Zaid Jilani:

I’m glad that Sanders is running. A good way to bring important ideas and facts to people. His candidacy might also press the Dems a little in a progressive direction. In our system of bought elections he has scarcely a chance of getting beyond the primaries, and even if by some miracle he were elected he wouldn’t be able to do anything, lacking any congressional representatives, governors, etc. As far as I can see he’s a thorn in the side of the Clinton machine, which is not a bad thing.

Good points. The Democrats have become ‘stale’. Bernie has lit a fire in many who have drifted off to the side lines and are now re-energized and willing to engage once again.

If elected of course he will need a sympathetic Congress to get anything done ( look no further than Obama’s administration). I believe if he is elected he will bring other like minded politicians with him and those that are already in office hopefully will see the writing on the wall.

There is no doubt that a fire needs to be lit on the Democrat side and Bernie is definitely doing a good job of that. A fire is needed to be lit under the Democrats if for no other reason than to grab some of the headlining spot lights back from the Republican Clown Bus. I admire Bernie in some ways but I just can’t get behind him on being the Democrat candidate. Of coarse, being an independent, it is really none of my business anyway. The primaries are Party business.

He’ll bring the Senate for sure and make a big dent in the stranglehold the GOP has on the House.

I believe Sanders is bringing out some very good points and helping to shape Democrat policy. But, Sanders is not the person for the Job of President.

That’s right keep underestimating Bernie, the people who show up for his events must like him and everywhere he goes he will have large crowds!

The dems can afford to move a little left, it’s the right that’s crowded…
