America: Racist Policing Isn’t A Bug, It’s A Key Feature!

That pretty much summarizes the conclusions of University of California Berkeley professor John A. Powell, as reported by our friends over at Raw Story:

[Powell] said in a video released this week by AJ+ that in the U.S., institutional racism has made the role of the police “to keep white people safe from the black community.”

Addicting Info reported that Powell marked the anniversary of the death of unarmed teen Michael Brown by pointing out the systemic racial inequities still present in American society.

“Through our practices, through our culture, and certainly through our policing, we send a message every day that black lives don’t matter,” he said. …

People may believe that they are not racist, he said, but can still hold “implicit racial biases.” And white people aren’t the only ones. Black people have these biases against each other and themselves, as well, because they are ubiquitous in society and almost impossible not to internalize.

A conversation on race is a good place to start, Powell said, but the issues in our society are “cultural and structural” and it will take a concerted effort from all sides to dismantle them.

Everytime someone tries to start a dialog they are called a race baiter or are called the N word, thug and so much more. The right pulls up brietbarted statistics to bolster their racism.

We can’t talk about race. If we do, then that acknowledges it and makes us admit it is taking place. We are so much happier behind the curtain in our pretend world.

You are correct, “We can’t talk about race,” but we can write about it as much as we like. :)

The Bezerkley quackademic has never worked a day in his/her/its life, unless you count putting stupid ideas to paper as work. Like the Obamaphone lady, he/she/it subsists on the taxpayer teat.

Prof. Powell isn’t stating anything new. We know “institutional racism” is the “New Jim Crow,” which is thoughtfully explained by Michele Alexander in her book by the same name. We’ve known it for years! Decades! It’s the one thing, if there were the political will, we could actually do something about; end New Jim Crow! End the Drug War!

The “message” isn’t just black lives don’t matter, it’s any one who falls victim to our Drug War militarized police state in place like Ferguson, or it’s anyone who runs afoul of local Gangsta-culture… black, white, it don’t matter to Gc!
