Lowe’s Driver: Company Kowtowed To Racist Customer

Big parts of the nation have yet to enter the twentieth (let alone twenty-first) century. Danville, Virginia now emerges as one such place:

A delivery driver at a Danville, Va., Lowe’s Home Improvement was replaced with another driver when a customer said she didn’t want someone who is black, a local report said.

Longtime employee Marcus Bradley, who is black, took offense to his bosses obliging the woman’s racist request, he told WSET-TV.

A phone call from his workplace of 11 years brought Bradley back to Lowe’s, where he swapped place with a white delivery driver to finish the job.

“I asked him why I couldn’t do it and he said ‘because you’re black and they don’t want you at the house,'” Bradley said of the Aug. 3 incident.

Bradley went back to work, but shared his grievances with the local TV station, whose reporter then confronted the customer on the front porch of her home.

    I must be painful living a life obsessed with racist undertones…I couldn’t imagine myself even thinking of a delivery person’s race, let alone requesting a certain race comply with my demands.
    Lowe’s was right to fire the manager.

      I bet the manager was transferred, not fired. I am glad that put that old bitties face on TV so we know what stupidity looks like.

    The correct response: “I’m sorry, but if you can’t accept the driver we’ve assigned to deliver the product, you’re going to have to arrange for private pick-up. Thank you for shopping at Lowe’s and have a nice day”.

    What would she have done if the driver was not attractive enough? Too fat, too old, too bald? Why has this person not learned by now that the world doesn’t always do exactly what you want? Does she demand a different cashier at the supermarket if she gets the wrong type? This is one very small person.

      She was mad at the Lowes guy because she had to pause her favorite movie D.W. Griffiths Birth of a Nation to answer the door.

        The subject matter of Birth of A Nation is truly unfortunate to say the least, especially since from a purely technical aspect, it was a technological tour-de-force in movie-making using for the first time techniqus such as extensive on location filming and mobile cameras. Too bad that this magnificent technical achievement is tarnished by a storyline which portrays Klansmen as heroes.

        The movie is of such interest to serious film study that it was required viewing in my high school film study class in Washington DC where the student body is over 90% black when I graduated high school (1970).

        For what it’s worth, D.W. Griffith later released the movie Intolerance as a response to complaints from the NAACP and other groups which condemened the glorification of the racist terrorist organization known as the Ku Klux Klan.

          Cool post.

          That Babylonian sequence in the movie Intolerance was incredible. The movie was really more than three movies molded into one, which may have been the first time that was done and to me it worked well. Did you ever see photos of that set?

          I know Griffith claimed that Intolerance was made to make up for the way he handeled BOAN. But I don’t know it did.

          Sounds like you went to a cool high school.

        The man has been a truck driver for a reputable company for 11 years, so this lady could tell IMMEDIATELY – just by looking at him – that he’s part of the “gangsta-culture” we’ve been hearing so much about lately.

            “Gangsta” is the new black, don’tcha know. Some righties use the term “gangsta” (greenfloyd, in particular) when referring to someone of the black persuasion. That way, nobody can accuse him of being racist because he didn’t say the “n” word. He said “gangsta”, which he thinks is more acceptable.
