Sanders: Obama ‘Broke Away’ From What Got Him Elected
Bernie Sanders told me Wednesday night that President Obama moved away from the grass roots support that bolstered him to the presidency in the first place. We also discussed why the only way to deal with Republicans is to give them “an offer they can refuse,” the Senator’s reaction to the crows of thousands who come to see him, and his thoughts on Vice President Joe Biden possibly entering the 2016 race.
COLMES: One of the criticisms of President Obama is that he hasn’t worked with kindly enough with this Republican Congress. Is there a better way to work with Congress then this President has or has he done as best as he can with a hostile Congress?
SEN. SANDERS: I don’t accept that criticism and in fact I think the mistake President Obama made is after he was elected he kind of disbanded, broke away from the grassroots campaign that helped elect him as President. I think that was a mistake. I think the evidence is overwhelming that the Republicans, the John Boehners, Mitch McConnells and others had zero intention of negotiating with the President on any serious compromising. Their function and their goal was to obstruct, obstruct, obstruct, and to quite frankly it took the President too many years to figure that out and I think in the last couple years he has been a stronger President and a better President because he understands there is nothing to negotiate with these guys.

Obama would never have been re-elected if he did what Sanders says he should have.

That’s pretty broad considering what Obama had to deal with during his first term.

True–but sadly, it seems that memories of the sh*tstorm Obama faced during his first term have been flushed down the memory hole. Instead, we get bone-stick-stone nonsense about how he should’ve used the “bully pulpit”, he was too accommodating, and how he’s really a Republican (or Republican-lite).

I wouldn’t call President Obama a Republican, or even the lite version. The Republicans have become extreme right-wing, and the President has been a moderate centrist, especially in his first term. He extended a hand to the Republicans in the naive assumption that these bloodthirsty fanatics were interested in doing the right thing for the country. His hand was bitten over and over again by these crazed savages.
President Obama finally learned his lesson and dropped his illusions. He has been better in his second term, especially after the mid-terms.

I agree–and honestly, if President Obama was really a Republican….then why the hell has the GOP been so dead-set on opposing anything he’s done? The same for Hillary–if she really was a Republican, then why the 20+ year campaign to destroy her image? Why the constant Benghazi hearings?

Bernies analysis is correct, but just what is the best way to deal with a Republican Congress that not only doesn’t want to work with you but wants to work against you?

i think its pitiful on both sides ( no offense obama ) that this government cant and wont do whats BEST for the entire country ! this goes for gwb too, We need knowledgeable people in the debates not clowns who want to push their special interests while sweeping all the other citizens under the carpet. Laws should be in place to hold candidates to what they say ( based on facts and knowledge ) or they get FIRED as president
are you listening mr. trump ???????

The president has had a heck of a row to hoe from the beginning. Crises and war while having to prove himself as not only as the first African American president but to make sure he wasn’t the last. Not since FDR has a president faced such a level of adversity. The GOP leadership vowed to make him a one term president and when that failed, they have pursued the goal to make him the last. President Obama knows full well what it’s like to walk Occam’s Razor, which he’s still having to do to this very day.
