Oklahoma Court Says Ten Commandments Monument Must Go

Posted by | July 28, 2015 18:00 | Filed under: Politics Religion

The Oklahoma Supreme Court says the state must remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Capitol.

Oklahoma’s Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the state must remove a Ten Commandments monument from its Capitol, after rejecting an appeal to reconsider an earlier decision on the matter.

The state’s Supreme Court previously ruled on June 30th that the statue’s placement was unconstitutional and violated a ban on the use of state property for religious benefit. The monument was first placed at the Capitol in 2012, paid for with private money and supported by lawmakers throughout the state.

“We carefully consider the arguments of the commission and find no merit warranting a grant of rehearing,” Chief Justice John Reif wrote in regard to the decision.

One thing that annoys me about politics is how we have to keep fighting these same battles over and over. This one has been solved many times. Move the damned thing, see if there is a church or synagogue that will take it.

Constitutionally illiterate electioneering is the only way their far right wing voters remember elections occur the first Tuesday of every odd numbered year.

That, and they have an army of hulking, semi-literate concert security guards who fan out and round them up…

        • Robert Kennedy July 29th, 2015 at 16:07

Hey, I was a concert security guard for years. I’m 6-3 and in those days 220 pounds. Big enough but not hulking. I worked either backstage or at the front of the crowd. But I was never semi-iterate.

I don’t understand why these so-called christians insist on forcing their version of religion down other people’s throats, or why it’s so hard for them to understand the part about not putting religious symbols on government property.

That cussedness started taking ideological shape with the spread of the vulgar anti-intellectualism of Jacksonian democracy.

      • The Original Just Me July 28th, 2015 at 23:17

Do you understand everything you think you just said ?

        • Mann T. July 29th, 2015 at 08:13

Read any book about Jacksonian democracy. One basic idea is that the uneducated man is the equal of the educated man in ALL respects. This forms a complete rejection of the elitist intellectualism of the enlightenment of which the founding fathers were an integral part.

I was just wondering. With all of your big fancy words, do you really believe you are impressing anyone. I see that you are relatively new here. You need to realize that we are just plain folk and therefore, plain simple truisms are what impress us.

If you read back on all of the history of Christianity, you will find nothing but force and violence. This actually is one of the Most Deadly Religious concepts ever. Honest History proves this.

Especially since they don’t follow the teachings of Christ. The only thing they do is cherry picked parts of Leviticus.

  4. robert July 28th, 2015 at 18:35

Koch bros Oki guber Mary Fallin should’ve first checked with South Carolina constitutionally illiterate justice Roy Moore on the 6,000 year old Earth and Universe age. Their bable is well proven the most easily debunked novel ever imagined.

It’s a pretty monument, the supporters need to raise money and find it a new home in an appropriate setting.

    • The Original Just Me July 28th, 2015 at 23:15

Golly Gee Whiz ! Well, Ya know why they didn’t think of that .

Pretty? PRETTY? The thing looks like a piece of bible shop bric-a-brac on goddamn STEROIDS! It is kitsch XXL, tacky, and completely unoriginal.

At least those wags over at the Satanic Temple know what in the wide, wide world of sports a monument is supposed to be.
