Town Declares Dogs And Cats ‘Non-Human Neighbors’

Trigueros del Valle, Spain is codifying respect for dogs and cats.

The pet-friendly town of about 300 people passed a declaration that will “dignify the lives of dogs and cats, animals which have shared with man thousands and thousands of years and have been a great help to him,” reports The Telegraph.

The town will care for cats and dogs that are abandoned, and scold owners who don’t treat their pets humanely…

The declaration also bans “any action that causes the mutilation or death of a non-human resident,” notes The Independent.

Rescate 1, an animal rights group, said, “Today, we are closer as species and we are now more human thanks to the sensitivity and intelligence shown by the people of Trigueros del Valle. This is a great day for humans and non-human citizens alike.”

My owner is in my avatar photo to the left. He takes me for walks, let’s me pick up his poop, and usually let’s me brush and pet him whenever I want, which is actually quite often. When he’s feeling really benevolent he licks my hand. Every time I come home from work or even go out for 5 minutes, after returning he acts like he hasn’t seen me in years. He rocks.

Dogs live in a state of “Present Moment Awareness ” – They forget what happened yesterday .. or even minutes ago, and have no worries about what will happen next.

Please share with us where you found this profound scientific data. If that’s true, how would they remember their owners from one minute to the next? Or where their food bowl is? I’ve had the pleasure of canine company for more than 50 years and have seen plenty of times where they display memory, worries, compassion, embarrassment, resentment and just about every other ‘human’ emotion.

While I would agree that dogs live mainly in the present, I disagree that they do so all the time. Whoever said that animals don’t have a soul or don’t ‘feel’ they way humans do either haven’t had a dog around very much, wasn’t paying attention when the did or are just plain stupid. They just have those emotions on a much less complex level.

Good, if i could afford a cat, i would get one but the vets are very expensive!

    • rg9rts July 25th, 2015 at 06:24

MONSTA cost $50 from the shelter…comes fixed and with all shots…you can get pet health insurance

      • BigDumbWhiteGuy July 25th, 2015 at 19:51

I’ve considered buying insurance, but the stuff that I really want (coverage for routine visits, meds) is always an add-on.
