Chip Off The Old Trump–Santorum Claims Immigrants Come Illegally ‘With A Bad Intent’
The race for the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination is beginning to look like a contest to determine which candidate can most thoroughly alienate Hispanic voters. With Donald Trump having declared that illegal immigrants from Mexico are all drug dealers, murderers, and rapists, you would think there’s not much room left for any further outrage.
But you would be wrong, and the latest GOP contender to plant his foot firmly in his mouth is former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
During an appearance on the CBS show “Face the Nation” Sunday, Santorum said he disagreed with Trump, but then added:
The vast majority of people coming legally from Mexico and other places are people who want to do the right thing. People who are coming illegally obviously are coming with a bad intent. Let’s just be honest, they’re coming with the clear intent of breaking the law….READ MORE at LiberalAmerica.org

Bad intent … such as seeking low-paying, labor-intensive jobs so that they can earn a few bucks to send back to their families south of the border.
Of course, Santorum has a history of sticking both feet in his mouth, such as when he decided to diss “Blah” Americans.

If you ignore the self-serving rhetoric of this pollster who has signed on to the Rubio campaign, his conclusions are shared by many political pundits.
Not surprising that Sen. Rubio has issued the strongest condemnation of Trump’s comments, referring to them as offensive and inaccurate.
As the other candidates stumble all over themselves trying to strike a balance between the need to attract Latino voters vs the need to not alienate the voters who fervently believe every word Trump said, looks like that GOP rebranding effort still has a few kinks to work out.

Republicans widely acknowledge that in order to take back the White House in 2016, they must make steady gains in winning back Latino voters, only 27 percent of whom supported Mitt Romney in 2012.
But Whit Ayres, a prominent Republican pollster who will work for Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign, says the party has to do much better much faster. Ayres told reportersTuesday morning that the Republican nominee must capture more than 40 percent of the Latino vote in 2016 to win the presidency—and suggested that his candidate is uniquely positioned to do so.
“A Republican nominee is going to need to be somewhere in the mid-forties, or better, among Hispanic voters,” Ayres said at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast. The pollster noted that his candidate is “extraordinarily talented” and could be “transformational” in expanding the GOP’s appeal.

Bad intent, or not, they’re breaking the law by just being here. They’re not “entitled” to be here. They have no “basic human right” to violate the borders of another nation, just because they’re “looking for a better life”. That would be like me breaking into a Beverly Hills mansion and moving my stuff in, without paying for it, just because I’m “looking for a better life”. The law is the law and people who want to live here need to follow it.

By any reasonable measure of common sense, they’re committing crimes just by being here illegally. Whether they commit more, once they’re here, is irrelevant. They’ve already committed a crime, by sneaking in.

They’re not saying that crossing makes them rapists and murderers. They’re saying that, by not having a secure border, rapists and murderers are among those coming into the country, unchecked.

Improper Entry Is a Crime
To be clear, the most common crime associated with illegal immigration is likely improper entry. Under federal criminal law, it is misdemeanor for an alien (i.e., a non-citizen) to:
Enter or attempt to enter the United States at any time or place other than designated by immigration officers;
Elude examination or inspection by immigration officers; or
Attempt to enter or obtain entry to the United States by willfully concealing, falsifying, or misrepresenting material facts.
The punishment under this federal law is no more than six months of incarceration and up to $250 in civil penalties for each illegal entry. These acts of improper entry — including the mythic “border jumping” — are criminal acts associated with illegally immigrating to the United States.
