Mayor Uses Government Resources To Promote Christianity
The mayor of Orange, California has come under fire for repeatedly using government resources to promote Christian events.
[She Has] has come under fire from the national nonprofit organization Freedom From Religion Foundation for using government resources for Christian prayer breakfasts, reports Patheos.
These breakfasts were originally described as open to all faiths, but after FFRF further investigated them, the organization discovered evidence that suggests these events were biased towards a specific religion and that public officials were very involved in organizing the religious aspects.
In a letter to Mayor Teresa Smith’s office, FFRF wrote, “[T]hese prayer breakfasts were undoubtedly Christian affairs. In an October 8, 2013 email between a city staffer, Deputy City Manager Irma Hernandez, when asked about the content of the keynote speaker’s address, Hernandez stated ‘[h]e will be talking about how Christ and following Christ has impacted his life — duh it’s a prayer breakfast and their goal is to share the Gospel and bring people to Christ and strengthen their beliefs,’” reports Patheos.
While Smith’s office has yet to respond to FFRF’s claim, these events do pose “constitutional concerns,” as the group explains, violating the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

I actually find ancient history quite interesting, even in Europe. But I bet the Vikings had a sense of humor… Look at how they named Greenland and Iceland.

I am of direct Danish decent. Therefore I got interested in Norsemen history and beliefs. It is absolutely fascinating how much influence they have had on today’s Christianity and the entire world. Many, many things we use in everyday life came from these peoples.

that was the group of Norsemen that went East and South from todays Sweden and Finland. They were called Russi’s. The people in present day Russia and Eastern Europe even hired these folks to govern them. No real wars there. These dudes went as far South as the middle east. I am trying to think of the name of the Middle east city the Russi tried to conquer but it isn’t coming just yet. Anyway, the people of the walled city held off the Ruussi several times but were so impressed by them , that they hired the Russi as guards for the city after things settled down.

I’d heard they were called the Rus… but otherwise it’s pretty much what i was talking about. Supposedly “Rus” means “boatman.” I can’t vouch for that because I barely speak English, let alone Swedish. But there are two theories about how they came to rule – by request or at the point of the sword. Again, I can’t say which is true (or true-er…)
As far as which city, I would guess Constantinople. They ended up hiring a buncha Swedish mercenaries.

Yes that was the city. Well, it has been a thousand years ago. Accurate history is a little hard to come by. Still the whole history of the Norsemen is fascinating.

The problem seems to lie in the fact that It’s Good for the Church but the folks who run the Church don’t seem to be satisfied with all the power they already have. They want to run other peoples lives as well as the lives of their Sheepeople.

The problem with these folks is that they are so convinced that their religion is the only one that they just really can’t understand that promoting Christianity in various denominations is still just promoting Christianity.
