U.S. And Cuba To Have Embassies
Cuba and the United States have announced that they will have mutual embassies in each others’ countries.
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the announcement on opening embassies was scheduled for Wednesday morning, Washington time.
It is not yet known if US President Barack Obama will make the announcement himself or through a press release.
In May, the US removed Cuba from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Plans to resume ferry and flight services between the US and Cuba were also announced.

(As an aside, and by no means kissing your backside, good post, Alan; you have your detractors…GOD, do you have your detractors…, but you (Or whoever posts this for you {KUDOS unsung intern!} almost always point out things that we “liberals” should read…although I question the inclusion of certain “celebrity” news here…
meh; whatever sells.

So you want to start a war? Sending those two anywhere will cause pandemonium and it will make Iraq look like a cake walk.

Go ahead conservatives, add this to the pile of
things that are going to destroy us– the ACA,
equal marriage rights, voting rights, clean air!

Good Point, but for some strange reason, they seem to be going along with this. I just wonder if they wanted to do it but didn’t want the political liability thing on their heads.

Bad mouthing this in public but doing nothing about it politically.

Does this mean that the immigration policy of getting to America soil guaranteed your citizenship and they will have to address immigration like all others?
Tim Coolio July 1st, 2015 at 10:30
I’m sure conservatives will now say America is
surrendering to Cuba! they will take us over
and run our country! they think we should
bomb bomb bomb them!!
tracey marie July 1st, 2015 at 13:09
actually they do not need to touch soil, just have wet feet close to shore.

Not citizenship, but permanent resident aliens. (green card).
AnthonyLook July 1st, 2015 at 20:48
Cuban immigration policy is essentially a privileged citizenship attaining policy. The “permanent resident alien status” is a formality stepping stone. The citizenship outcome is built in, significantly expedited; Cuban Immigration Political Refugee Privilege. The Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966 and The Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments of 1976, have to be revisited and adjusted.

Our relationship with Cuba over the past few decades when compared to our relationship with China during that same time period is, in my opinion, a very stark illustration that our foreign policy was a pile of hypocritical horseshit where nothing mattered except generating corporate profits.
We had two communist regimes. One in mainland China and one in Cuba. Both were equally repressive to their own citizens. Only China posed any tangible military threat.
So who do right wingers want to boycott? The tiny country with minimal military capability and a population maybe half again as large as New York City.
Meanwhile, President Nixon goes to China. The mission is hailed as an historic achievement and the money begins to flow with the nation of over a billion people where there was lots of money to be made.
Don’t get me wrong. I am glad President Nixon went to China. I am glad that President Obama is normalizing relations with Cuba. But to anyone who thinks that our policies towards these countries were based on concerns about liberty and personal freedom as opposed to maximizing corporate profits, I have some swampland available for sale at an excellent price.

And we give China ‘most favored nation’ status even though their tariffs on U.S stuff is 10 times what ares is on their stuff.

My sister wants me go fly over to see a doctor.
tracey marie July 1st, 2015 at 16:42
They do have wonderful doctors, they have made discoveries and found medicines that we in the USA have not for cancer, symtoms and after shocks as I call them. DO IT! Fly to miami then ferry over.
allison1050 July 1st, 2015 at 17:44
They do stuff that doctors wouldn’t dream of doing in this country and the cost is a world of difference than here. If need be I will be flying!
tracey marie July 1st, 2015 at 17:57
Less then a third. Be careful, some of their holistic medicine is to extend life, not cure the disease or the after shocks from the toxic treatments. I encourage you to ck it out.
