Pastor Says He Won’t Set Himself On Fire After All Because Of Gay Marriage

Rick Scarborough says he was just quoting a song when he said he’d “burn” if the Supreme Court approved gay marriage.

In — literally — a ‘fire and brimstone‘ proclamation, Pastor Rick Scarborough said he and his fellow pastors should band together to halt the growing threat of same sex marriage, saying, “We are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and if necessary, we will burn.”

Twenty-four hours after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same sex marriage, Scarborough explained that he wasn’t really going to set himself on fire — he was just using the words of a Christian spiritual to rally the troops.

“I made that comment to paraphrase a spiritual song, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in which the three were given a choice—to bow to the image of Nebucahdnezzar or burn in a furnace,” Scarborough explained .” ‘We will burn’ means that we will accept any sanction from the government for resisting [Friday’s] Supreme Court decision. We do not support any violence or physical harm.”

I know a guy who’s collecting rebel flags. He’s going to build a big fire out of Bibles and Korans and burn them all for Labor Day

Christians: stay out of secular affairs and there wouldn’t be a problem. It’s really, really simple. No gay people want to get married in your church. No one wants to make you attend gay weddings. If you think so, you aren’t listening. The idea was, and is, to treat people equally under law. Marriage has two meanings, the scriptural one, and the secular one. It isn’t hard to grasp. The law deals with secular matters, so when “gay marriage” becomes plain “marriage”, it is only speaking to the secular definition. You define marriage however you want, from a spiritual perspective. There’s nothing for you to be upset about. Nothing.

Yes, but they live to bitch and moan. If it weren’t for gay marriage, they’d whine about Obama being the anti-Christ, women having way too much freedom, etc.

Religion will become an underground function and extremists will end up further alienating themselves from the human race, what good is it to have the entire cake and nobody share it with or keep pissing into the wind, it’s fruitless.
