Gun Ownership In Decline
The General Social Survey shows that household gun ownership in the United States is in decline.
The GSS, which is conducted by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago, revealed that household gun ownership hit its peak in 1977, at 53.7 percent. By 2014, household gun ownership had dropped to 32.4 percent, and personal gun ownership fell from 30.5 percent in 1985 to 22.4 percent in 2014, The Huffington Post reports. Thus, just a little over one in five people owned guns in the U.S. last year.
Those who reported having a gun in their household from data collected between 2010 and 2014 were 39 percent Caucasian, 18.1 percent African America, and 15.2 percent Hispanic. The survey also found that “households with firearms are concentrated in rural areas and in regions with more residents living in rural areas,” according to the NORC.
The GSS revealed that the NRA’s marketing campaign toward women and younger generations has been seemingly unsuccessful. The survey showed little change in these demographics, as the Violence Policy Center reports: “Personal ownership of firearms has not appreciably change[d] for women from 1980 through 2014.

Market saturation. There is a finite number of nerds who need to get their personality, courage and identity from a holster.

So true. Many are just plain old idiots.

I notice the black guy is the only one not wearing a reflective vest. Is that because the rest of them don’t need one to see him as a target? Or is it just coincidence?

Futurama (Wizard of Oz-ish) …..who needs courage when you have a gun?

Zoidberg: Nothing! I’m leaving. But if you have extra courage I’d haul it away for you, maybe?
Farnsworth: Oh, blithery poop, my cowardly lobster! You don’t need courage. After all, who needs courage when you have a gun?
[He hands Zoidberg a gun and he takes it, spins it around on his claw and mimics gunfire.]
Zoidberg: No, world, you put your hands up!

Fewer and fewer homes have guns in them, but the homes that do have more and more guns in them. It’s not unusual to find a ‘gun nut’ with over 20 guns, a ton of ammo, and all the other paraphernalia that goes with a ammosexual’s desires.

I have a fair amount of guns in my home but I inherited them and have no where to get rid of them. I don’t dare sell them to some gun nut and they are not all that well made so they aren’t worth anything as a collector’s item. I would love to turn them in to the cops but in IN they don’t do that (NRA frowns on that sort of thing doncha know).

Well, not that you asked for advise but if it were me, I’d ask an expert about each one. Sort by worth. The truly worthless ones you could ask the sheriff about turning them in. The ones with some value, perhaps you have friends or relatives that would like to have them. A gun shop. who would have to run a back ground check on any purchasers, might buy them, if cheaply.

The NRA has been saying that for over 6 years now, still hasn’t happened.

The rabid pro-gunners need a new selling tactic, and I think it will be, “Hillary Clinton is just like Barack Obama, and she’s coming for your guns.”
I own guns, and the major differences between myself and the pro-gunners are that I don’t consider them to be sexual objects or indicative of my worth as a human being.

Hmm.. Gallup poles show the opposite trend. Also FBI backgound checks per year have doubled since 1999.
