Pat Robertson, Who Supported Iraq War, Now Says It Was ‘Big Mistake’
Back then, Robertson said the war was being fought according to Christian principles.
The decision to minimize civilian casualties in the war in Iraq shows that the conflict is being fought in accordance with Christian principles, supporters of the military campaign in the USA have claimed.
The Rev. Pat Robertson, the founder and chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network and the Christian Coalition, said many Christians who support the war believe the biblical principles of loving one’s enemy means that precautions must be taken to minimise civilian casualties.
Estimates suggest that deaths during the war have run into the thousands, with possibly 2,000 civilian casualties.
Robertson said that some Christians might be reluctant to embrace the war effort because of their opposition to the taking of human life.
“But as long as we continue the course we’re on,” Mr. Robertson said, referring to the overall concern for Iraqi civilians, “we’re on solid ground, not only in terms of Christian, biblical concepts, but also in terms of public relations.”
Now he says he knew it was a “big mistake.”
“But the truth is, going into the Iraq in that war was a big mistake,” he said. “We interviewed on this program, I interviewed Saddam’s bombmaker, he was the man who was supposedly in charge of thermonuclear weapons for Iraq and Saddam Hussein, and he basically said they do not have the technology and ability to bring out a nuclear bomb.
“And I knew it, I hope the CIA knew it, I hope the president knew it. But he was being fed a tissue of lies, and you’re hearing all these reports about yellow cake and all this nonsense. And it was a snow job to try to sell that war, and we shouldn’t have gone into it, it’s cost a trillion or more dollars, it was a big mistake, and going in then, we shouldn’t have, and looking at it in hindsight you shouldn’t have. It was a bad mistake.”

Good for him. I despise the guy, but I think there’s a difference between someone outside, hearing what we were told about Iraq, and someone like Cheney who was deliberately conspiring for war. I have no problem with people revisiting past positions and declaring them mistakes. Robertson’s god knows I’ve done it often enough.

Uh, selective memory.

Sung to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song.
Come and listen to my story about a man named Pat
His friendship with Jesus made his wallet really fat
And then one day while preaching on the set
The Creator told Pat “Run for Pres-i-dent”
God, that is. The Big Guy. Al-mighty.
Well the next thing you know ol’ Pat picked up the sword
Church Folk said, “Pat, win it for the Lord”
Said prayer in school, but abortion must not be
Then they blamed it on the lib-rals and sex-ual odd-i-ties.
Gays, that is. Athiests. Leftwing commies.
Well Pat lost the ‘lection, good morals were no more
And now the Christian Coalition had to close its doors
Lots of folks dejected, many saying “God, why me?”
But according to the Lord, it wasn’t meant to be
Christ, that is. God’s son. J.C.
Well now it’s time to say goodbye to Pat and all his kin
Who taught us that abortion and gay life is a sin
They’d like to convert you all someday to Chris-ti-an-ity
And donate all your money to their min-is-try.
Offerings, that is. Green backs. Large bills.
Y’all come back now, hear!

But Jesus said you can’t worship both money and God, so which is it Pat? Never mind, we all know the real truth.

Cheney’s check must of bounced this month, when his great novel comes out, dick can finance his loyal followers again.

You think this reversal is jaw dropping?
Just wait when the climate really gets wacky. The Republicans will have everyone convinced they were warning about climate change and those pesky Democrats just stood in the way of pursuing alternative energy sources.

Hell, we could all have told him that 14 years ago.
