Report: Apple Secretly Building Electric Car

Documents in a court case reveal Apple working on battery technology for an electric car.

The document indicates that Apple is interested in developing some kind of battery technology. It does not specifically say a battery for a car. But it does revolve around a guy who has spent nearly two decades in the electric car battery business. Some naysayers have argued that Apple isn’t interested in building a car, just in providing software for them — but the Cupertino recruitment of people with expertise in hardware like batteries suggests otherwise.

Another piece of evidence that Apple is working on a car emerged earlier this week. The company is significantly increasing its presence in Cork, Ireland, where it is planning a massive new factory complex. And a job listing for a managerial role at Apple’s Cork office requires experience in the “automotive” industry.

I really hope to see this technology crack open the fossil fuel & internal combustion engine monopoly on transportation in my lifetime. It would be an earth shifting paradigm for the betterment of humankind.

I predict the oil companies will go after Apple with a vengeance. It will be much more of a challenge for them than when Firestone and GM went after streetcars.

In 1950, Firestone along with General Motors and Standard Oil were charged and convicted of criminal conspiracy for their part in the Great American streetcar scandal. The scandal included purchasing streetcar systems throughout the United States and dismantling and replacing them with buses.

True. I remember the scene where the children asked Eddie Valiant “What’s the matter Mister, aincha got no car? To which Eddie replied that he didn’t need a car because he lived in a city that had the best public transportation system in the world.
