Scott Family: ‘Justice Will Be Served’

Walter Scott, the 50-year-old black man shot in the back by a white North Charleston, South Carolina police officer, was remembered by his family at a news conference Tuesday night.

Video released of the encounter shows that Officer Michael Slager shot Scott in the back multiple times and, in the immediate aftermath, appeared to drop his Taser near Scott’s body.

Slager is in custody and is being charged with murder, and Scott’s family held a presser to address the matter. Anthony Scott, Scott’s brother, said, “We can’t get my brother back, and my family is in deep mourning for that… I don’t think that all police officers are bad cops, but there are some bad ones out there.”

He asked for everyone to keep praying for their family and said, “Justice will be served.”

Family attorney Justin Bamberg told reporters how grateful the family is for the video, because they could only imagine what would have happened if no one recorded the incident.

I would offer this family strength but apparently they don’t need it. They know they have justice on their side and that will help get them the verdict they never wished for.
