Stop Beating Up On William Shatner

True friendship understands that you don’t break commitments, and William Shatner was at a charity event to which he’d committed long ago.  If he’d stiffed the Red Cross, he’d have been blasted for that. His love for his friend is not diminished by his inability to be in two places at once. Shatner’s two daughters, Melanie and Lizabeth did attend the funeral.

“Does Leonard Nimoy strike anyone as a guy who would’ve chastised William Shatner for picking a charity gig over a friend’s funeral?” asked New York magazine film critic Matt Zoller Seitz.

The Red Cross leapt to his defense, too.

“Thank you so much for your support last night in the midst of mourning the loss of your dear friend,” the Red Cross tweeted at him.

According to a rep from the nonprofit, Shatner was one of four celebrities to attend the $1,000-a plate event at the Mar-a-Lago club.

He was joined by Donald Trump, Wayne Newton and Shirley MacLaine at the high-profile party.

Shatner did mention Nimoy’s death during his remarks and asked for a moment of silence for his friend, the spokeswoman said.

Kirk is doing what Spock preached: LLAP.

I’m trying not to cry again.

I’m with Bill Shatner on this. While it’s sad he couldn’t make the funeral, at least it was for a good reason. I’m sure a kind hearted person like Leonard Nimoy (may he rest in peace) would understand.

I love it when complete strangers think they know the reason a celebrity does or does not do something, and that they have the right to criticize the celebrity for doing or not doing it, as if they are friends. Anyone who “blasted” Shatner for not being there needs to STFU.

William Shatner asked for a “moment of silence for Leonard Nimoy.” That combined with his two daughters being at the funeral shows where his heart and mind was. Let the man mourn his dear friends loss in piece. Show some respect for those that are hurting right now.

Shatner could of split himself in two beings, like he did in The Enemy Within, with the transporter separation incident. But on second thought, Kirk 1 was purely good and Kirk 2 was purely evil. Kirk 1 could’ve gone to the funeral but I think that evil Kirk 2 would’ve stiffed the Red Cross. You are correct Mr. Colmes, can’t be in two places at once. (smile)

As much as I was perturbed by his not getting to the funeral… I am absolutely LIVID to find out HE SUPPORTS DONALD TRUMP!

Which is where this charity shin-dig took place….

Now I have an even lower opinion of him…. smh

How is he supporting Donald Trump? The event took place at Trumps resort. The event supported The RED CROSS!

Well… for starters, he could support The Red Cross at anytime, from any location, for any one of multiple reasons….

But to do it at Mar A Lago for Donald Trump????

When was the last time you saw a famous celebrity attend a charity event where he disagreed politically with the person hosting the event at their own property?

Oh… and btw… I can start a 529 anytime I want… …I could have done it in 2012 and called it “Guarantee the Obama Legacy for the People”

Now you would think that would mean I love the president and I care about his issues and the work he does…. which in fact I do.

But… it also means I could have set up a false front to gain support from liberals, independents and democrats alike… and take their money… then turn around and become one of those political action committees that were hiding under the guise of “charity” only to run a multi million dollar campaign against the president and everything his administration stands for.

Fortunately, I support what he is doing.

So my point is… I don’t think William Shatner is the type of guy who would attend a charity event at Mar-A-Lago for Donald Trump at the risk of not being able to get to the funeral of his good friend and coworker for decades UNLESS HE DID ACTUALLY SUPPORT DONALD TRUMP.

Do you think he would do that and still not support or agree with Donald Trump…. really?

mansplain that to me would you please….

Please tell me that you are getting help for your paranoia. In the meantime, you should probably be directing your hostility towards the Red Cross, it was THEIR EVENT! This wasn’t a fund raiser for the RNC, Trump for President, or any other political motive. It was a fund raiser FOR THE RED CROSS!

Wow are you ever naive…. or more to the point… you are just another teabagger.

Everybody keeps saying “Live long, and prosper” to each other.
Seems kind of mean while LN is just laying there.

It’s no secret as to Shatner’s personality and morals regarding this issue. Old news to Star Trek fans, Shatner is an arsehole.

I’m waiting for the part where is is explained why any of this is ANYONE’S business but Shatner’s?
