There’s A Shot For That
On Monday, February 2, 2015 (Groundhog Day) he said:
“I have heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines.”
…which was quickly followed by a photo-op of him getting a booster shot.
Of course, the idea of vaccines causing profound mental disorders was part of the conspiracy-laden organization Association of American Physicians and Surgeons of which Rand Paul belonged for 20 or so years. They also held some other interesting beliefs, like HIV and AIDs are not related.
And then there was this interesting sort-of explanation of what he meant from his statement on Groundhog Day:
“I did not say vaccines caused disorders, just that they were temporally related – I did not allege causation. I support vaccines, I receive them myself and I had all of my children vaccinated.”
Temporally related is a way to spin the old saw, correlation is not causation, in the favor of the causation. I’m told my mother got a parking ticket the day I was vaccinated, so that was temporally related, too. I had pasta last night and it rained, so they are temporally related too. The DOW went up and I lost a half-pound, so thank you industrialists, keep it up for the sake of my temporally-related New Year’s Resolution.
The media seems to like Rand Paul, they find him interesting; I think he’s fork shy of a place setting. The media won’t call out his temporally relating back-peddling I think because he makes the 2016 Goat Rodeo much more colorful. Americans love characters, we sort of look forward to the next gaffe from Vice-President Joe Biden or the next word salad from Sarah Palin. What Americans do not like are crackpots, and Sen. Paul is getting into the that danger zone, and I suspect he knows it. Temporally, that is.

I think Rand Paul is an excellent example of a republican accepting responsibility for his/her words and actions. /s/
