Corn: Why Liberals Should Embrace ‘Progressive Champion’ Mitt Romney

Posted by | January 23, 2015 11:30 | Filed under: Opinion Politics Top Stories

David Corn at Mother Jones writes about the new Mitt Romney.

It is time for liberals to cheer Mitt Romney.

Not because his possible entry into the 2016 Republican presidential contest could cause chaos for the GOP. But because Romney, apparently seeing the error of his”severely conservative” ways, has become a progressive crusader. Initial news reports noted that Romney was telling Republicans privately that should he mount a third presidential bid he would run to the right of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, an all-but-

announced contender. Yet in public remarks, Romney has been sounding like a born-again lefty. At an investment management conference in Utah this week, Romney told the crowd that a new-and-improved candidate Romney would focus on climate change, poverty, and education.

Yes, climate change, poverty, and education. In a bizarre Freaky Friday sort of way, Romney appears to have been body-snatched—perhaps by the ghost of Ted Kennedy. He declared, “I’m one of those Republicans who thinks we are getting warmer and that we contribute to that,” he said of climate change. And he called for global agreements to curb greenhouse gas emissions, slamming the US government for having failed to achieve such accords. “Let’s deal with poverty,” he also proclaimed. “Have we done it? No. Let’s do it.” And to improve education, he urged more pay for teachers.

Yes, Mitt Romney has reinvented himself again. But this time he’s calling himself a conservative, yet coming across with progressive stances. Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up? Or,maybe there isn’t one.

I’m still waiting for Romney to say it is time to raise taxes on the rich, until then …

i be happy for the release of his tax returns, before he speaks about things , i know i have a hard time believing him changing.

Mit will say anything to get elected his desperation is pitiful. The kochs kicked him to the curb either as a smoke screen or they figure he’s un-electable. Once in office he would shake his etch-a-sketch and start doing what he promised 10 years ago.

Just because Mitt is acting out a Bible verse part of which says “Beware of the Wolves in sheep’s clothing.” This does not mean Liberals should believe Mitt. Notice the Bible clearly states to all “BEWARE”. I for one am taking the biblical advice and staying clear of Mitt.

you don’t need the bible – your olfactory system should suffice.

if mitt thought it would benefit his soggy ego, he’d wear a red ribbon on his penis and run over the dog and cripple ann’s horse while burning the elevator for the car – the guy is an opportunistic mofo who believes it’s his right to be pres – also can’t figure out why it hasn’t and won’t happen. He’s the lowest in the repug cast of bit part players.

I won’t vote for Mitt because I’m still holding a grudge. I wasn’t included in his “binders full of women”.

Talking out of both sides of his mouth has worked so well for him in the past that I really see Romney going somewhere in 2016. Unfortunately for him, “somewhere” won’t be 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Probably just the yacht-elevator showroom.

I still don’t trust him. I’m pretty sure he is actually an alien from the planet xeron T-7. He continues to provide the documents to prove otherwise.
